Boomer’s Second Chance ~
Like a Boomerang, Boomer came around and bounced
back after his first round of surgery to prepare him for
his new limb. He shows the tenacity to survive, and
willingness to thrive in whatever situation he finds
himself. His personality and temperament win the
hearts of everyone who meets him. These qualities
allow Boomer to be a candidate to become a very
special therapy dog when he has recuperated from his
surgery and adjusted to his new limb.
Wondering if your dog could become a therapy dog, and what is required? The most
important and essential qualities are that a dog must be friendly, like to initiate
interaction with people, and is well behaved. A therapy dog is exposed to a variety of
stressors, and unpredictable situations, and must have a very stable temperament.
He/she must be social enough to not react adversely if a human in a hospital or nursing
home setting acts in an inappropriate manner. Read more of this article on our website...

The Good Ole Summer Time Brings Fun, Relaxation and also some hazards...
True Story ~ One of my friends recently almost lost her
dog to heat stroke. After one week, the dog was still
not back to normal....
She was playing at the lake and thought that being in
the water would keep her dog cool enough. WRONG
!!!! They played catch, chase, and frisbee for two hours
as the dog just wanted to keep playing. WRONG !!!
The human in control should stop before the dog
collapses. The dog fell in its tracks and went into a
seizure. Her body temperature could not be cooled down, as the inner organs had
reached too high a temperature. Her organs and brain had already begun to swell. They
rushed her to the emergency clinic in the nick of time, to save her life. She had to be
given intravenous fluids and other emergency measures had to be taken to stabilize her
entire body. She was lucky and was able to get her to the emergency clinic in time.

We Love Our Volunteers!
Furry Kids is so lucky to have such a great youth
volunteer team! These kids choose to spend their time
volunteering on Saturdays at the adoption events
helping to set up, make sure each animal has water and
a comfy blanket, they walk the dogs and give them lots
of love and treats. We don't know what we would do
without them! If you would like to join this great team,
please visit our website for more information on
volunteering!
