This has been a good year for the MHEC, continuing to grow and embrace change.
The MHEC has become the premier purchasing consortium in New England by
developing strong relationships with members and suppliers through our
extensive portfolio of 55 master purchasing contracts. The Annual Product EXPO
helps us, our member and our suppliers, reinforce those important relationships.
During the past year, the MHEC has invested in itself through the addition of new
staff members and by enhancing our IT profile, infrastructure and website. We
continue to offer contracts which provide savings opportunities and product
relevancy for all who use them. The total number of members and suppliers now
both exceed 600 and continue to grow at a steady rate. The current total annual
spend by our members exceeds $162 million, demonstrating the utility of our
contracts.
Please join us in welcoming our new members, as for many this is their first MHEC
EXPO experience. We would also like to acknowledge our wonderful volunteers
who work tirelessly to ensure the success of this great event. A special thanks to
John Martin, the Director of Procurement & Campus Services at UMass Amherst,
who is serving as this year’s EXPO Grand Marshal.
Finally, we would like to thank this year’s EXPO sponsors:

MHEC Help Desk
Do you have questions about membership, website login or navigation, finding contracts,
products, and pricing or searching the database? Visit the Help Desk located outside of the
Ballroom, where an MHEC staff member will be available to answer your questions. No
question is too small. Please stop by, we are happy to help.
Don’t have time to see us today? No worries. The MHEC website offers a Training/Help
page where you can view training modules on how to register for the MHEC website or
search our extensive database. Visit www.mhec.net and click on the Training/Help button.
Remember, all of our contracts are available online for members to view or search. If you have not already
done so, to register for access to the website go to www.mhec.net, click on “Login” (top right), then click on
“New Member Registration” and follow the instructions.
Bid Express Presentations
To streamline our bidding process, we (MHEC) have moved to an online bidding tool called Bid Express.
This secure Internet bidding portal provides interested bidders the ability to download, complete and
submit their bids online. This new process is intended to assist bidders in submitting bids on time and with
all the required documentation, therefore limiting the risk of disqualification. There is no cost for suppliers
to submit bids through Bid Express for MHEC solicitations. To help familiarize suppliers and members with
this great new tool, we have invited a Bid Express representative to present two sessions today tailored for
supplier and member needs.
Presentation For Attendees
10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Amphitheatre
MHEC members are invited to join a live educational presentation of MHEC's new solicitation management
system. Learn more about the benefits of this method, how MHEC solicitations are now being published,
and how a process like this may work for your organization.
Presentation For Exhibitors
1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Amphitheatre
Exhibitors are encouraged to join this session to learn about registering for Bid Express and submitting
electronic bids. Q&A will follow the live demonstration allowing specific questions to be answered by an
onsite Bid Express representative.

Charity 2014 Stats
EXPO Charity
The MHEC continues its’ tradition of supporting Toys for Tots as our EXPO charity.
We agree with the Toys for Tots program's belief that children are one of our
nation's most valuable resources. We are asking exhibitors and attendees to join
us in donating to this important program.
About the Program: Toys for Tots is a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Program. The
mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new,
unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and to
distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the
community in which the campaign is conducted. Their goal is to deliver, through a
new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will
assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
The Marines are manning the charity booth located in the lobby by exhibitor
registration throughout the day. Toys will be collected at the end of the day. Cash
donations are also accepted. Remember, any amount will make a difference to a
child in need.
Last year the MHEC, EXPO attendees
and exhibitors donated 100 toys, 32
stocking stuffers, 10 books and $176 in
cash to Toys for Tots! You can help us
make this year even better.

EXPO Flora
This year, we’re featuring a variety of plants throughout the venue. These plants have been procured from
Lamoreaux Greenhouses, a family owned and operated business. Located in Brookfield, MA, Lamoreaux
has ten greenhouses and 25 acres of land. Make sure to take a moment to read the names of the plants;
each plant we are using filters toxic agents from the air. Did you know that trees can absorb as much as 48
pounds of carbon dioxide per year? Or that one large tree can provide an oxygen supply for two people?1 All
plants will be donated following the EXPO. Please consider contributing to the “Go Green” movement by
planting trees or other flora.
Below is a list of plants we have chosen to help filter the air at this year’s EXPO2:

New England Grown Menu
On a daily basis, much of the food we eat has traveled across the country or even world to get to us. The
distance the food travels on the way to our markets or grocery stores increases the emissions of the food
transport vehicles significantly. Eating locally grown food is not only more nutritious but can also help
reduce emissions. You can make a difference by buying locally when possible. At this year’s EXPO, the
Sturbridge Host will be serving a New England grown menu, with most of the ingredients from right here
in Massachusetts. Here is some information about the menu and where the ingredients were grown:
New England Grown Lunch
Tomato Bisque (V)(G)(N)
Tossed Local Seasonal Greens with Choice of 2 dressings (V)(G)(N)—Morse Farms
Cornbread (V)(N)—Baker Bill
Roast Turkey (N)(D)—Misty Knoll Farms
Sage Stuffing (V)(N)(D)–Baker Bill
Homemade Cranberry Sauce (V)(G)(N)(D) –Ward’s Bog
Herb Crusted Baked Haddock –West Boylston Seafood
Whipped Red Bliss Potatoes (G)(N) –Morse Farms
Squash Medley (V)(G)(N)–Morse Farms
Bread Pudding with Maple Sauce (V)–Baker Bill/KE Farms
*(V) indicates Vegetarian, (G) Gluten Free, (N) Nut Free, (D) Dairy Free

“Going
Green for EXPO 2015”
For this year’s EXPO, MHEC is focusing on “Going Green”
and sustainability. We thought it might be helpful for you
to know what we, as an organization, are doing every day
and for EXPO 2015 to go green.
Every Day MHEC…
 Participates in the UMass recycling program for
bottles, cans, paper, cardboard and toner cartridges
 Conserves electricity in the office by turning off
lights, computers and other equipment when not in
use. Always leaves copiers in “Energy Saver” mode
 Purchases paper towels made out of 100% recycled
fiber with a minimum of 40% post consumer content
 Employees drink water out of a reusable/refillable
Poland Springs water cooler instead of using
disposable plastic bottles
 Employees print when necessary, send information
electronically whenever possible
 Some employees ride bikes to work, weather
permitting
 Maintains green plants throughout the office
 Employees carpool to work and events
 Reuses office supplies
 Electronic bidding process eliminates need for
paper bids
For EXPO 2015, MHEC…
 Reused name badge holders from previous years; will recycle name
badge holders for next year’s EXPO
 Printed this program on 100% post consumer fiber using soy based
inks
 Provided reusable attendee gift bags
 Provided BPA free fruit-infuser water bottles
 Provided a compost bin at the hydration station for used fruit rinds
 Printed Passport to Savings activity on paper containing a minimum of
30% postconsumer recycled content and meeting the global standard
of the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). Will recycle Passports after
use
 Printed table tents for Exhibitors participating in the Passport to
Savings activity on recycled paper and will recycle the table tents after
use
 Purchased Polo shirts made with recycled content for staff & volunteers
 Used air filtering plants from a local greenhouse for EXPO decor
 Used biodegradable latex balloons for decoration
 Constructed an informational tree as decoration from cardboard and
recycled construction paper. Tree leaves were hand written with
ecofriendly markers
 Passed on “Go Green” tips to attendees and exhibitors through an
informational tree
