Fertilizer offtake during Rabi 2012-13 (October ’12 – March ’13) The cumulative nutrient offtake during Rabi 2012-13 (October 12-March 13) was about 1,976 thousand tonnes, witnessing an increase of 11.2 per cent over the same time frame of 2011-12. Nitrogen offtake increased by 7.9 per cent, and phosphate increased by 25.9 per cent over previous Rabi season. Potash offtake witnessed an increase of 17.3 per cent. As far as fertilizer products are concerned, urea offtake during Rabi 2012-13 was 2,855 thousand tonnes and DAP offtake was 700 thousand tonnes representing an increase of 5.2 and 24.8 per cent respectively over Rabi 2011-12. Fertilizer production and Imported Supplies Production of all fertilizer products during March 2013 was about 537 thousand tonnes. Out of which, urea production was 397 thousand tonnes, (73.8 per cent of total products). Other products were: DAP 55 thousand tonnes, CAN 42 thousand tonnes, Nitrophos 34 thousand tonnes, SSP 4 and NPK’s 6 thousand tonnes. Imported supplies during March 2013 were about 58 thousand tonnes of urea only. 2. PRICE TREND Domestic: The prices of all fertilizer products remained almost stable as compared to the previous month. However the prices of urea (sona), urea (tara), NP, SSP (G), CAN and DAP decreased by 1.1, 0.6, 1.5, 1.5, 0.2 and 0.3 percent respectively over the last month. International: Urea FOB bulk yuzhny price was at US $ 370-410/t. Fob bulk, Middle East urea price was seen at US $ 405-415/t. DAP price remained in the range of US $ 463-475/t in US Gulf and US $ 490-500/t in China. Ex-Karachi price of imported urea was in the range of Rs. 2561 to Rs. 3009 per 50 kg bag while that of DAP was Rs. 3308 to Rs. 3752 per 50 kg bag. 3. OUTLOOK FOR KHARIF 2013 3.1 Urea Kharif 2013 began with 220 thousand tonnes of opening inventory. With 2,600 thousand tonnes of domestic production and 190 thousand tonnes of imported supplies, total available urea would be about 3,010 thousand tonnes. The estimated offtake during Kharif 2013 is expected to be around 2,800 thousand tones, leaving behind an inventory of 210 thousand tones for next Rabi season. The domestic production of urea is estimated on the assumption that urea plants at SNGPL network will operate on 40 percent of their capacity. 3.2 DAP As regards DAP, total availability is estimated to be 562 thousand tonnes for the upcoming Kharif 2013, which includes opening inventory of 197 thousand tones and domestic production of 365 thousand tones. The expected offtake is 600 thousand tonnes. Hence, a deficit of 38 thousand tonnes of DAP will be covered through imported supplies by private sector.
