Grants Obtained:
SJU Summer Research Grant (Summer 2011). 10,000, Institutional grant for research on the
impact of arts integration on the success of disadvantaged populations. First step of
research was to review the quality of the studies that had been performed using the
Council for Exceptional Children’s criteria to determine evidence-based.
SJU Seed Grant (Summer 2011). 5,000, Institutional grant for costs associated with developing a
research proposal and beginning a pilot study in order to submit a grant proposal for an
external funded grant.
Untie the Right Brain Grant (May, 2009). Bob O’Leary & Dr. Melanie Hicks from ICUF (70%),
$2,000,000 (over 2 years), Florida Department of Education, August 2009 - August 2011.
Initiated the idea and collaborated with Bob O’Leary and Dr. Melanie Hicks from ICUF
to obtain and manage a collaborative grant involving multiple private universities to offer
undergraduate and graduate level courses in Arts Integration and serving 175 teachers in
multiple high needs districts throughout Florida.
SEU Academic Resources Grant (April 2008 & April 2009). 4,000 (over 2 years), Institutional
grant to purchase materials to support new programs. Awarded by the Dean of Library
Sciences at Southeastern University.
EXPERIENCE:
Primary Professional:
Untie the Right Brain Grant Administrator, Southeastern University, Lakeland, FL, 2009-2010.
 Developed a budget; collaborated with directors of educational consortia and Polk county
district personnel to explain program, procedures, recruit teachers, and answer any questions;
coordinated with graduate admissions, housing, Chartwells, business office, financial aid, and
other off campus housing and food businesses; collaborated with other College of Arts and
Science professors to collaboratively create new courses and to develop a timeline of when to
co-teach the courses.

work with students with disabilities in writing, time management, and organizational
needs, 2008-2009.
Committee, Served on Grants and Publication Committee, Faculty Development and Assessment
Committee, COE Curriculum Committee, and COE Teacher Screening Committee. Led the
formation of and chaired the Grants and Publications Committee from 2009-2010.
Task Force, Led the faculty scholarship task force created to address ways of increasing support
for faculty scholarship. These recommendations were to be presented to the Board of Regents.

Consultation, Participated in public relations efforts for the new ESE degree: multiple
interviews for media news release on the degree program; multiple meetings with
prospective students and current students wanting more information on the new program
and financial aid for the program; workshop for admissions department on multiple
teacher qualifications offered through program, and the multiple sources of student loans
and grants for students pursuing this major, 2008-2010.
Professional Organizations:
Training, Hosted the local Council for Exceptional Children chapter meeting on 3/17/09
and arranged for our SEU ESE majors to present to professionals working with students
with various disabilities
