Example of a description Universes is an artwork by Sandra Selig. It was produced in 2007 and is currently on display at the Art Gallery of South Australia. Universes is a number of two dimensional art pieces, approximately 42cm by 29cm, made on black sheets of paper with vibrantly coloured spider webs transferred onto them to create a metaphorical effect. Universes is a curious piece that envisions the extremity of the cosmos with a metaphor that connects spider webs to the universes. The spider webs have been painted in various cool and warm colours, more specifically greens, blues reds and yellows contrasted against a black background. They are different shapes, sizes and variations of the arrangements of the patterns of the cob webs. There are extreme differences between each of the webs with many strands flowing outside the bulk of the webbing, as well as web strands clumping together in places. The artist created this work by spraying the cobwebs and transferring them to black paper. Mini Artwork component From your research, you have now identified the themes and techniques that your artist has used. Create a 2D or 3D mini artwork in the style of your artist. For example: Banksy uses stenciling technique to comment on political and social issues. Select an current issue and create a stencil which makes a comment. Or Peter Drew uses paste ups as his main technique. He uses historical images and places them in a contemporary context. Perhaps you have some old family photos which you could turn into paste ups and photograph them some in the public arena. *Please do not paste onto public walls as this is considered graffiti. Or Will Coles draws objects for his inspirations. His cast concrete works that appear on city streets are poignant and clever. For example his concrete case of a television with the work numb carved into the screen. Perhaps you could select an object and text which connects to object and make a cast using clay Remember: Your work must be ORIGINAL and not a copy of the artist work directly, but using the THEMES and TECHNIQUES they have used to create your own version.
