social%chair%as%well%as%their%

graduation,%Joel%hopes%to%

Philip%is%a%senior%studying%business%
and%psychology%who%just%returned%
from%studying%abroad%at%the%London%
School%of%Economics%and%is%currently%

equity%company%in%Los%Angeles.%He%
volunteers%actively%at%his%hometown%
high%school%speech%and%debate%team%
as%an%assistant%coach,%and%actively%
participates%in%both%the%training%and%
the%tournaments%the%team%attends.%
Philip’s%interests%are%varied%from%his%
research%in%psychology%to%his%career%
goals%in%management%consulting.%
After%graduation,%he%hopes%to%find%a%
comfortable%career%with%reasonable%
pay%where%he%can%solve%problems%
and%improve%business%practices.%

Nick%Wang%is%majoring%in%Business%
Administration%and%with%a%focus%in%
entrepreneurship%and%sports%
management.%He%is%a%member%of%the%
Alpha%Lambda%Delta%national%honor%
society%and%serves%as%the%secretary%
for%the%Lambda%Chi%Alpha%Fraternity%
as%well%as%Chief%Financial%Officer%for%
the%startup%food%delivery%company,%
Envoy,%which%launched%at%USC%last
week and is expected to do very
well in the USC community.

JAMESON%ULLMAN%
Jameson Ullman is a junior
majoring in International Relations
and minoring in Business. He has
just begun an internship with the
Center for Risk and Economic
Analysis of Terrorism events, in
addition to conducting research as
a part of Professor Patrick
James’s Near Crisis Project. He
also is taking part in the Teaching
Ethics Program, where he is going
into a high school classroom 4
times over the semester to teach
ethics. Additionally, he serves as
the accountant for KXSC, USC’s
student-run radio station, and is
on the National Council for a
prominent Political Advocacy
Group.

Nick%Bessette%is%a%senior%and%has%
been%an%active%member%in%Tau%
Kappa%Epsilon%for%the%past%three%

alumni%chair%and%on%the%executive%
board%as%historian%and%
treasurer.%%On%campus,%he%is%
involved%with%Beta%Alpha%Psi,%USC’s%
Accounting%Fraternity,%and%several%
service%organizations,%particularly%
the%LA%Food%Bank.%Nick%has%
completed%his%undergraduate%
degree%in%accounting%in%the%
Leventhal%School%and%is%currently%
pursuing%his%Master’s%degree%in%

Nathan%Nguyen%is%a%senior%majoring%

he%participates%in%various%service%
events%around%the%community.%

the%full%week%of%rush%and%
secondary%rush%the%following%

accepted%by%rushes.%
Unfortunately,%this%was%151%
fewer%bids%than%the%previous%
fall.%Fall%Recruitment%went%
smooth%like%usual%with%one%
major%change%in%secondary%
recruitment.%IFC%required%
every%single%chapter%to%have%
representatives%at%secondary%
recruitment%in%order%to%
encourage%a%larger%
involvement%in%the%greek%
community.%%This%measure%
was%taken%in%response%to%
feedback%collected%from%Fall%
Recruitment%participants%
that%lamented%the%lack%of%
time%they%had%to%get%to%know%
houses%before%having%to%
make%decisions%about%where%
to%spend%their%time.%%
%
Whether%this%change%
increased%the%number%of%bids%
that%would%have%been%
accepted%is%yet%to%be%seen%
Further%feedback%will%be%
gathered%to%assess%the%
efficacy%of%the%change%as%
well%as%about%the%
recruitment%process%in%
general%to%help%us%improve%
our%efforts%in%the%future.%IFC%
hopes%to%reduce%the%trend%of%
decreasing%involvement%in%
greek%life%and%hopes%to%be%
able%to%recruit%more%
members%in%the%future.%A%
tremendous%amount%of%
credit%is%due%to%chapter%
presidents%and%recruitment%

campuses%throughout%the%
country,%USC%has%decided%to%
take%upon%itself%to%make%
positive%strides.%Provost%
Garrett%recently%released%a%
statement%about%many%new%
initiatives%taking%place%on%
campus%to%combat%sexual%
assault%V%among%those,%a%
Sexual%Assault%Prevention%
Task%Force%formed%by%
members%of%our%own%greek%
community.%With%Micah%
Solit%(IFC/Zeta%Beta%Tau)%
and%Kaitlyn%Hittelman%
(PHC/Delta%Delta%Delta)%
acting%as%coVhead%chairs%of%
the%task%force,%them%and%a%
team%consisting%of%Joey%
Backs%(FIJI),%Charlotte%White%
(Alpha%Delta%Pi),%Jake%Simon%
(IFC),%Providence%Illisevich%
(USG%Greek%Senator),%Sam%
Levra%(Alpha%Delta%Pi)%and%
Kenzie%Roof%(PHC)%
dedicated%a%portion%of%their%
summer%to%create%initiatives%
that%would%educate%the%
greek%community%on%the%
prevention%of%sexual%assault.%
Those%plans%have%since%
come%into%fruition%V%two%of%
three%main%focus%groups%%
(IFC/PHC%Presidents%&%%
%
New%Members)%have%
already%received%positive,%%
professional%seminarVtype%
education%regarding%this%
issue.%One%portion%of%the%%
education%is%specific%to%
chapter%leaders%and%what%
they%can%do%to%assist%those%
who%are%possibly%affected%by%
sexual%assault;%additionally%
new%members%of%every%IFC%
&%PHC%organization%were%
educated%on%the%dangers%of%
sexual%assault.%Lastly,%over%
the%span%of%the%semester,%
each%IFC%and%PHC%chapter%
will%receive%education%to%
their%entire%membership%on%
this%issue.%The%goal%is%to%
better%inform%the%greek%
community%of%what%is%and%
isn’t%consent,%how%we%as%
bystanders%can%prevent%
sexual%assault,%and%finally%to%
create%an%atmosphere%
where%we%try%to%solve%the%
problem%rather%than%keep%
silent%about%it.%Due%to%the%
leadership%and%foresight%of%
the%IFC%and%PHC%
community,%USC%greek%life%
isn’t%simply%standing%by%and%
waiting%for%the%problem%to%
solve%itself%V%they%are%
confronting%the%issue%head%
on%in%a%strong%effort%to%solve%
this%national%problem.%
