Application Deadlines: Fall semester: May 1 / spring semester: October 1 Costs: During the exchange program students will have to pay the following ($CAN) Room and Board on campus: $3740 - $5795/semester (4 months) (2010/11 prices) Residence Hall fee: $2315-$3605/semester (4 months) 2010/11 prices (not including meals) Exchange Students may apply to live in university residences (dormitory-style with a roommate, bachelor apartments with a kitchen, or shared one, two, three and four bedroom apartments with kitchens) during their exchange placement whether for one semester or two. Most exchange students prefer the 4-bedroom apartment-style residences. Students in dorm-style residences must purchase a meal plan (approx. $1425 $2190 / semester). Acceptance as an exchange student does not guarantee placement in Residence and students are encouraged to apply online for housing as early as possible as on-campus housing is in high demand and fills up quickly. Estimated rental costs: $500 - $900 / month plus utilities Personal Expenses: Food: $200 - $300 / month (if living in a self-catering residence) Clothing/laundry/entertainment, etc: $100 - $250 / month Transportation: Students will be charged a UPASS fee of $110 per semester which provides unlimited access to the Calgary Transit (buses and trains) Health Insurance: students must purchase insurance from home and bring it with them. The University Health Clinic provides health care to students. Books: $500 - $1000 / semester (cost may be lower or higher depending on the courses and on whether used or new books are purchased) Estimated total amount for one semester: $6000 - $8000 (plus airfare) Estimated total amount for the academic year: $12,000 - $16,000 (plus airfare) Language Requirements: TOEFL 220 computer based, 560 paper based or 83 internet based, IELTS minimum 7.0 Course with restrictions: Medicine; Fine Arts (in general, “studio courses” are not open to exchange students); Law (will only consider students who are in the faculty of law at their home institutions and who have completed at least 3 full years of law courses at their home university). Check with the nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate for details. In addition, you may also have to obtain a Study Permit. A Study Permit costs $125 CDN. Students, who will be here for less than 6 months, do not need a study permit but will need their letter of acceptance to show Immigration when entering Canada.
