Job Description Communications & Marketing Manager NEEDED: Gen Next seeks a Communications & Marketing Manager to help execute internal, Member communications of a national Membership organization focused on engaging business leaders in solutions that create opportunity for future generations. Some external marketing and communications responsibilities will also be needed. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, detail-oriented, actively optimistic, results-driven, and passionate about making a difference. ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION Gen Next: Gen Next (GN) is an exclusive network of accomplished and dynamic entrepreneurs, executives, and thought leaders. GN acts as a leadership platform that develops and deploys forward looking and purpose driven leaders. Our Members learn about and become engaged in driving impact around key issues that will face future generations. Membership in GN is by invitation only and requires a minimum contribution of $10,000 annually. Gen Next has approximately 225 Members across the country and currently operates in Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Scottsdale, Orange County, and San Diego. GN will be expanding into the Bay Area, Dallas, Chicago, Miami, and other major cities. GN executes more than 100 programs (events and unique experiences) a year with top business, political, and thought leaders in the US and around the world. GN also engages Members in high-impact opportunities—e.g. the Gen Next Foundation is in a joint venture with Google Ideas and a London-based NGO to develop solutions for countering violent extremism. Members also allocate and raise millions of dollars and work with top political leadership through Gen Equity PACs of Gen Next. Our impact and our network are growing, and we're looking for the right person to help us build and drive that growth. The Communications and Marketing Manager will work directly with dynamic and successful entrepreneurs and business, political, and thought leaders. Growth within the role will lead to organizational development, strategic initiatives and communications, political, and philanthropic engagement. POSITION SUMMARY The Communications and Marketing Manager is responsible for producing and managing engaging content across multiple platforms to help build and maintain the Gen Next Brand. This role interfaces with key headquarters and co-located staff as we work to execute our mission of setting up future generations for success by engaging and deploying our Members across the country. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to the following): 1. Creating, editing, and disseminating communications content Research, write, edit, and disseminate weekly Member email update Research, write, edit, and disseminate monthly Member-targeted e-newsletter Research, write, edit, and disseminate quarterly national e-newsletter Assist with drafting and editing Member-targeted emails across the country, including special announcements, invitations, updates, and Leadership Memos Assist the CEO in creating and updating PowerPoint decks and talking points for key presentations Assist in drafting and editing op-eds, blog posts, and memos from the CEO Maintain and update Gen Next Member blog updates Create infographics and visually-stimulating graphic content for Members and the public that convey the goals, progress, and achievements of Gen Next and its affiliates 2. Monitor and improve Member communications engagement Track Member readership weekly, monthly, and quarterly Prepare monthly and quarterly readership reports for each Regional board Identify areas for improved readership and work with Regional Directors to engage Members with poor/flagging readership engagement Identify areas where content can be freshened or improved to keep Members engaged Job Description Communications & Marketing Manager 3. Managing and updating Gen Next social media platforms Manage and execute the Gen Next social media strategy across platforms, ensuring brand and message consistency Maintain the external pages for Gen Next on LinkedIn and Facebook, including organizational updates, job openings, and Member achievements Maintain the internal Member-focused LinkedIn and Facebook Groups Maintain the Gen Next Instagram and Twitter accounts Manage the creation and scheduling of regular tweets Maintain a database of Member, speaker, and partner social media properties 4. Providing marketing support for Programs and key initiatives Author and edit marketing language that previews Gen Next programs for Members Maintain internal background documents on all programs, including researching relevant articles to prepare Regional Directors and staff Review and edit all Program recaps after they are drafted by Regional Directors Review and edit photos and maintain database of photos and videos for future marketing use 5. Project management, including vendor and consultant management Manage or assist in managing ongoing external relationships with vendors and consultants, including: graphic design, website creation and management, app development, press and media outreach, and video production. Manage timeline and execution of external projects including increasing Gen Next’s media relationships and presence, the creation of a Gen Next promotional video, and Gen Next’s thought leadership development 6. Developing and maintaining Gen Next brand and messaging consistency Ensure consistent branding and messaging is used by all staff in any communications, internal and external Maintain internal best practices guides and train staff as needed Review key branding properties such as logo, colors, and fonts to ensure consistency 7. Researching and building awareness of Gen Next issues, Members, and mission Research and select articles of importance to Gen Next Members, including those pertaining to upcoming programs and speakers Research and maintain awareness of Gen Next Members in the news, and build rapport with Members to understand how to feature them in publications 8. Maintaining Gen Next Member and contact databases Oversee the maintenance of Gen Next databases and CRM as needed, including Member bios, Member contact and personal information, quotes, photos, video, stats, and facts. 9. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree (B.A) or equivalent, preferably in Business, Communications, Political Science, English, or Journalism Minimum of two - three years’ experience in a communications or marketing-related role, and a consistent record of drive and accomplishment. Experience working with C-level executives is a plus. Must have experience and an appetite for writing marketing language for products or services, and familiarity with targeted marketing best practices. Experience with business writing, speechwriting, and writing for earned media (op-eds, pitching and placements) a plus. Experience in event planning, building organizations, politics/policy, and social entrepreneurship are a plus. 2. COMPUTER/TECHNICAL SKILLS Intermediate or advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel Intermediate or advanced knowledge of social networking skills including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, as well as mass-management tools such as Hootsuite Experience with marketing and database platforms such as Vertical Response, Exact Target, Mailchimp, Eventbrite, Cvent, Salesforce Proficiency with photography/photo editing a plus WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment described here are generally but not totally representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this position.
