This is my favorite time of year – and not just because of
college basketball. After the holiday rush, everyone seems
grateful for routine, appreciating the joys of everyday life.
In the last year, we’ve noticed many more members
making The Center Club part of their regular schedule,
visiting week after week for convivial Friday lunches or
regular date nights with a group of friends. It’s a point
of pride in the hospitality industry when guests reward consistent high quality with
frequent visits for small events as well as grand occasions. It’s just one way that
Center Club members make us very proud to serve you.
Now is also the perfect time of year to introduce family to the Club. Remember
that your membership automatically includes membership for your spouse.
February’s Third Thursday is a great opportunity to introduce your spouse or
significant other as we host a special Meet the Members Happy Hour. We’re already
taking reservations for families bringing young guests later this month when the Tony
Award-winning musical Annie comes to the Hippodrome (January 20–February 1;
baltimore.broadway.com). Mention the show when you make your dinner reservation
and we’ll be ready with special Annie-themed desserts for your younger guests
before you attend the show.
Of course, we’re also ready to serve you and your guests before or after other
theater events. This winter, consider One Night in Miami (January 14 – February 8;
centerstage.org), exploring how the young Cassius Clay celebrated his first world
heavyweight title. There’s also An Evening with Jason Alexander at the Meyerhoff
(January 22–25; bsomusic.org) and Lewis Black (January 17) or Jay Leno
(January 22) at the Lyric (lyricoperahouse.com).
If you’re still thinking about resolutions, consider adding value to your membership
by trying out an IntraClub. Stoke your powers of curiosity, step outside the everyday,
and meet new members at a meeting or event. Check out this issue for lots of
opportunities to take the first step or plan to attend January’s Third Thursday when
the IntraClub chairs will be on hand to answer your questions.
And finally, watch for more news about a very special renovation planned by some
of the Club’s most visionary members. We’re getting ready to unveil changes to
the Grill Room that are sure to make your membership even more valuable and
enjoyable.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHTS
Eugene Barabasz
Eugene was recognized as Employee
of the Month in September. He has
been with The Center Club for eight
years and will be retiring at the end
of March. Eugene is the first person
to greet you as you enter the Club’s
garage, he also works as a server,
assists with maintenance and utilities and can also be found
setting up rooms for Club events and private parties.
Eugene is originally from Baltimore and moved back to the
East Coast after retiring. He worked as a water hydrologist for
over 30 years in Los Angeles, California. “I have so many fond
memories of The Center Club. I have made some very close
friends here and will miss working with them every day.”
Eugene is looking forward to devoting more time to his
hobbies, astronomy and building drones, once he retires.

Michael Sipes
In October, Michael was recognized
as Employee of the Month. He began
working at The Center Club after
graduating from Baltimore International
College in 2011. During his culinary
training he studied in Ireland for five
weeks working all areas of a hotel from
front-of-the-house service, to the kitchen and grounds keeping.
You may remember seeing Michael in the 16th Floor Grill. He is
currently working in the main kitchen on the sauté station making
pastas, fish, scallops and his favorite new menu item, the Kobe
Beef Short Ribs.
Michael is the oldest of three and grew up in Catonsville. Watching
Emeril Lagasse on Food Network inspired him to become a chef
himself. In his spare time he likes to bake and create new recipes
at home like homemade maple bacon ice cream. His family loves
it when he cooks for them, especially home-style rustic comfort
food such as beef bourguignon.
