Stand Down began. Our
Patriots Club and veterans
will once again participate
in this event, which will be
held between Fall 1 and
Fall Quarters.
Stand Downs are just one part of the Department of Veterans Affairs' efforts to provide services to homeless Veterans. Stand Downs
are typically one to three day events providing services to homeless Veterans such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, VA and
Social Security benefits counseling, and referrals to a variety of other necessary services, such as health care, housing, employment,
and substance use treatment. Stand Downs are collaborative events, coordinated between local VAs, other government agencies, and
community agencies serving the homeless.

Students helped the Fayette Humane Society (FHS) in two ways by donating food and canvasing a local neighborhood heavily populated with stray animals.
According to Dr. Rudd, the goal of the FHS is to identify animals that need medical care and spay/neuter services at no charge to the residents. We will be knocking on doors to determine where colonies of stray cats live,
who is feeding them and approximately how many cats or perhaps dogs, are at each location. Through grant
funding, the Fayette Humane Society is attempting to control the population of stray animals and also help the
residents who can not afford spay/neuter services. On an individual basis, the FHS provides food and transportation to local veterinary facilities who provide discount spay/neuter services.
For four hours the twelve participants canvassed the entire neighborhood. The drive resulted in the collection
of approximately 150 pounds of food.

Thanks, Jarrel, for thinking for stopping by and thinking of us!
