Cowen: New Recruits ______________________________________________________________________________ Course Overview This course will be facilitated to provide an overview of the fundamental theories and principles of organizational behavior and illustrate how these theories are translated into practice within organizations. Students will learn valid principles of management and understand the importance of employee ability, motivation, and emotional stability This course will be taught utilizing topics outlined in the required text, lecture, case studies, and through experiential learning. Students will learn the tools necessary to apply management principles to real work settings. Course Requirements Grading Measuring overall success within this course will be accomplished using the categories outlined below. Class Participation (20%) – Meaningful, insightful and constructive class participation. Case Analysis (25%) – Selected cases will be analyzed both individually and in team settings. Grading will be based on how well the case analysis incorporates course concepts and overall comprehension of the material. While this is not a public speaking course, each analysis is expected to be presented in a clear and professional manner. Team Project (30%) – Each team will be expected to research and present on a topic relevant to the key concepts of organizational management and behavior. Topics will need to be submitted ahead of time for approval. Learning Journals (25%) – Each student is expected to submit (prior to each class) a learning journal that provides insight into how he/she interprets the assigned readings and how it applies his/her own personal and professional development.
