English Literature 12 The Canterbury Tales Modernized and Satirized Characterization Project The Canterbury Tales was Chaucer’s attempt to expose the flaws and hypocrisy (vocab: satire) of his current society, 14th century Medieval England. His ingenious talent of characterization (act of creating and developing the personality of a character) in representing all of the social classes of his time was his key to achieving his goal in a humorous way. In your project, you will be using characterization and satire in a very similar way. Choose a “character” from our society today, much like Chaucer did in The Canterbury Tales, with which you can create and develop the personality in an attempt to “poke fun” at our current society.
