The Veranda is an exceptionally scenic outdoor restaurant operated by the owners of the Golf Course. The format of our meeting will be that of a business mixer. Therefore. It will be set up for people to mingle more. All are encouraged to invite guests. Please invite any prospective candidates for the club. Every Rotarian, Every Year program. Each Rotarian is asked yearly to contribute $100 to Every Rotarian Every Year program. Rotarians can make their contribution to Rotary International via check and give it to Joe Marchese. The Festa Of Italiana was announced and it is being held Saturday, June 7th From 10am-9pm and Sunday, June 8th From 10am-7pm at the Staten Island Zoo. Presented by the Staten Island Zoological Society & South Shore Rotary in cooperation with the Garibaldi Meucci Museum. More Italian specialty foods & more music, rides, cultural exhibits, games & tournaments will take place. 2009 CORVETTE COUPE RAFFLE Glady’s Schweiger Announced that The 2009 raffle has been kicked off and the first prize is the corvette or $40,000, 2nd prize is $500 and the 3rd prize is $250. Tickets are $100 each and limited to 1,000 tickets. Todate 282 tickets are out. Drawing will be held on June 23, 2009. Help is needed by all Rotarians. Program: John Caplan Introduced this week’s Guest Speaker Dominic Carter From NY1 News Political Anchor. Veteran newsman Dominic Carter has been described as the best political reporter working in New York television today. He is only TV Journalist in the entire country to interview Carolyn Kennedy regarding her past interest in the US Senate, an interview made headlines throughout the world. Dominic has made numerous guest appearances on national shows including “Face the Nation” and “Hardball with Chris Matthews.” Dominic has also lived such a remarkable life that Oprah Winfrey has profiled him in her signature magazine, and Donald Trump starts his most recent book declaring how much respect he has for Dominic. Dominic has appeared on the cover of the NY Times TV Guide, and has also released a book on his life, tittled No Momma’s Boy, in which he chronicles his triumphant struggle to overcome his mother’s mental illness while growing up in the Bronx housing project. As a host of NY1 nightly political show, “Road to City Hall,” Carter has handled some of the station’s most challenging assignments and has interviewed many national and international leaders. He covered Barack Obama’s hjistoric road to victory, He followed Obama during three critical battleground states,. Cater reported live from Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada and was even on field doing his show live at Invesco Stadium in Denver Colorado, when Obama accepted his party’s nomination before 84,000 people. In 2006 Carter received widespread acclaim for his role as the moderator of series of State-Wide debates including with Hillary Clinton where he again made international headlines when Clinton said for the first time that she was thinking about running for president. His numerous exclusive interviews include former President Bill Clinton, to an exclusive interview with Nelson Mandela during Mandela’s historic visit to the united states- an interview he conducted as thousands of journalists from around the country pursued the South African President. The NY1 journalist had also reported extensively from abroad. In 1993 he was the only television journalist in Japan with then-Mayor David Dinkins at the time of the first World Trade Center terrorist bombing, and broadcast live back in New York from Japan. He twice traveled to Israel to cover visits to the region by then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Mayor Michael Bloomberg; he has reported on the famine from Somalia; and he has spent time in the Persian Gulf. Carter has appeared on the cover4 of the New York Times TV Guide, which called the veteran journalist “A Force to be reckoned with” He has also been profiled in the Washington Post, New York Magazine and the New York Post, and The New York Daily News among many others. Carter has also been a guest on CNN, and the Fox News Channel. As a youngster growning up in the Bronx, Carter was involved with the Police Athletic Lague, and today is proud to call himself a PAL KID. ”No Momma’s Boy,” His Memoir, was released to critical acclaim.
