EDUCATION
32 public schools, 3 Catholic schools and the Catholic school
district provided professional development to over 900
teachers who instruct over 15,000 students, including more
than 6,000 struggling students to improve literacy
achievement and/or develop leadership skills.
575 struggling students received tutoring after school or
during the summer and 316 achieved grade level in reading.
227 teens were employed as literacy tutors.
618 least-advantaged students became better prepared to
succeed in college.
178 adult English Language Learners increased their
proficiency in English in order to meet their educational and
career goals.
741 parents became more engaged in their children’s
academic success.
18 disconnected youth earned nurse assistant certificates and
secured employment.
Over 100 adult educators learned new strategies to support
literacy achievement for their students at a conference hosted
by a borough-wide volunteer collaborative.
75 local teachers were inspired at Channel 13’s Celebration of
Teaching and Learning.
ARTS & CULTURE
10 Public and 2 Catholic schools provided high quality arts
education to 3,931 children.
9 local organizations or artists enhanced arts education
while 3 schools worked with the Metropolitan Museum of
Art, the NY Philharmonic, and Studio in a School.
31 struggling students made quantifiable academic gains
after participating in a theater program.
City-wide arts funders hosted at Snug Harbor Cultural
Center and Botanical Gardens learned more about local
organizations.

HEALTH
Over 200 health professional and adult educators learned
literacy strategies to improve health outcomes for poor
and immigrant clients.
Over 40 partners launched the Tackling Youth Substance
Abuse Initiative aided by collective impact experts.
1,211 at-risk youth received services that resulted in
positive sexual health outcomes.
170 at-risk teens developed skills to help abstain from
substance abuse.
53 caregivers received supportive community health
services and respite.
89 young people increased their physical activity and
nutritious eating
27 children learned life-long strategies to cope with
anxiety disorders.
100 2nd graders in Title 1 schools received potentially lifesaving swimming lessons
2,079 low-income individuals improved their nutrition by
increasing their intake of healthy fruits and vegetables.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
13 organizations, serving over 22,300 individuals, improved
their effectiveness and efficiency in order to improve their
results for those they serve. 2 organizations improved their
facilities and 2 completed strategic plans. 5 used staff support
to provide technical assistance services and specialized
expertise to other organizations.
4,224 low income residents had their basic needs met and
were connected to other services
407 homeowners received foreclosure counseling and 82
received mortgage modifications.
3,396 residents volunteered their time and expertise for
community projects.

Results Example
Focus: Community Services
Target: Increases in number of individuals and families experiencing poverty
that get their basic needs met (food, clothing, shelter) and connect to other
needed resources
Anticipated Results: By the end of the project the organization will file tax
returns for 1,300 low-income Staten Islanders and secure $2.55 million in
tax refunds for Staten Islanders. 700 of these tax clients will be screened for
benefits and at least 15% (40) of those identified as potentially eligible for
food stamps will be enrolled. 190 new tax clients on Staten Island will be
helped to file their taxes and 160 Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN)
tax returns will be prepared for non-citizens living on Staten Island.
Actual Results: We filed 1,526 tax returns on Staten Island. We helped
clients secure $2.82 million in refunds at our Staten Island sites. 1,103 tax
clients on Staten Island) were screened and 45 enrolled for food stamps. We
assisted 374 new tax clients on Staten Island) and prepared 95 ITIN returns
on Staten Island.
