Name: BOOK-TO-MOVIE PROJECT You have decided to turn your book into a film!!! You will be the marketing agent, casting director, sound designer, and movie reviewer for your film. OPENING NIGHT OF YOUR FILM (Due Date): _____________ Each of the following must be turned in by opening night of your movie (the due date): 1. MARKETING/MOVIE POSTER: Make a movie poster for the new film based on the book you have read independently. This project should be on a poster and include the following: The title of the book prominently displayed The name of the author in a disclaimer line (ie; “Based on the novel by _______”) One large picture that represents the theme of the story Names and pictures of the actors/actresses that could realistically play the main characters in the book. Name the actor/actress and the role he/she will play. (from #1—Casting) A tag line that references the plot or the theme of the story and will entice a prospective audience to see your film. (ie; “The true story of a real fake.”Catch Me If You Can) The rating of the film (PG, PG-13, or R) 2 mini-reviews (for example, "Two thumbs up" - Bob Smith, Courier Post) Two (2) mini-quotes from the work (book) that will get people interested in your film. They can be about the plot, characters, setting, theme, etc. Explanation of each quote (1-2 sentences each) ON THE BACK OF THE POSTER, INCLUDE TWO (2) OF THE FOLLOWING THREE (3) ELEMENTS: 1. CASTING: You are the casting team for a new film to be made on the novel you have read. Choose current actors/actresses to play the parts of the main characters. This project should include the following: The name of each of the main characters from the novel The name of each actor/actress A written rationale for each, describing the character you are casting and an explanation of why the actor you chose is the best for that part (be specific: for example, discuss the actor’s qualities, characteristics, previous similar roles, etc.) Written rationale should be at least one paragraph for each character. NOTE: You may go outside the perimeters of the book (ie; different gender or race), as long as you stick to the basic ideas of the plot and keep the personalities and relationships of the characters the same. 2. SOUNDTRACK: Create a soundtrack for the novel, choosing or composing 3 songs. The songs must represent the main themes, moods, relationships, or events in the story in some way. For each song, include the following: Name of the song and artist Lyrics of the song Identification of the scene where song would be played in the film Explanation of how the lyrics help to show the main themes, moods, relationships, or events in the story 3. MOVIE REVIEWS: Write 2 movie reviews for the new film based on your chosen book- one good/positive and one bad/negative. Each review should be at least 200 words long and must include the following: A star rating (out of 4) for each review Commentary/critique on the elements of plot, character, and setting, in addition to criticizing/praising the actors' portrayals in their respective roles
