Your teacher requires you to use a minimum of three sources for your research paper. Only one source may be used from the internet. Always remember to cite your sources! I. South Fayette Library Catalog- Use this catalog to search for print resources in the Library. A. To access the Online Library Catalog from home: 1. Go to sflibrary.southfayette.org 2. Choose South Fayette High School B. How to search for print resources: 1. Subject search 2. Keyword search 3. Power search- allows for a more detailed and specific search. You can search using several keywords, resource type, and circulation date. 4. You may also type in the series name: Diseases and Disorders Series or Deadly Diseases and Epidemics and click on Series. This will allow you to view all the titles that are in this particular series found in the 600 section. II. South Fayette Online Resources- Our Library contains a wide range of online resources available for your use. These resources can be accessed from the library webpage, or by typing in the web address provided. A. eLibrary- Online database that offers more than 2,000 full-text sources and fun and easy-to-use search interface. Includes magazines, newspapers, books, television/radio transcripts, maps, pictures and audio/video clips. 1. Click on the eLibrary link. If you are accessing this from home, go to www.proquestk12.com. Enter the Username: SFStudent Password: GoLions 2. Type your search term in the search box. You can choose a specific source type if needed. 3. Select an article from the results page. (Notice the source type icon next to the article’s title.) B. Gale Virtual Reference Library- There are two e-books that would be useful to you for this project. They are found in the reference section of our library as well as in e-book format. You can access these books by clicking on the Gale Reference Library link. Password: remote. This will bring you to the opening screen. 1. Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine- This reference tool includes informational more than 1,600 medical disorders. It discusses causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatments and procedures. 2. UXL Complete Health Resource- This reference tool covers symptoms, diagnosis, tests, treatments and prognoses of 140 health problems. It also covers the main body systems, nutrition and medical and mental issues. III. Web Resources- The following is a collection of quality resources from the internet hosted by medical experts and facilities. A. Medline Plus- www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus MedlinePlus will direct you to information to help answer health questions. MedlinePlus brings together authoritative information from the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and other government agencies and health-related organizations. B. Center for Disease Control (CDC)- www.cdc.gov CDC.gov is the Center for Disease Control’s primary online communication channel. CDC.gov provides users with credible, reliable health information on data, statistics, diseases, conditions, emergencies, disasters, environmental health, healthy living, injury, violence, safety, life stages and populations. C. National Institute of Health- www.nih.gov The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s premiere medical research agency.
