HAMLET FINAL EVAL INFO & PREP
On the test you will be asked to write about a selection of topics. These topics will be chosen from the following:
Hamlet's desire for death
Friendship in Hamlet
The role of lunacy in the play
Relationships between sons and their fathers
Hamlet and his relationships with the women of the play (Ophelia and Gertrude)
Appearance vs. Reality
Revenge
Complete the following sheets to prepare for the evaluation. These sheets, your notes and the text may all be used, but the evaluation must be
completed within 2 class periods. If you have not prepared properly you will not have enough time.
Be prepared to do the following on the examination:
Create a strong topic sentence / thesis statement to keep your response / essay on track. If you are to create a strong response / essay you should not deviate from your initial
assertion.
Make sure to provide adequate textual information / proof. If you do not support the argument you present with language from the play you will not convince the reader that your
position is valid.
When using quotations embed them into your text. Shakespeare has been dead long enough that he should not “write” any aspect of your paper for you. any quotes you wish to use
must be attached to your language and combined to create a sentence that shows command of content.
Examples:
1) The King refers to Hamlet's odd behavior as “dangerous lunacy” (3.1.4).
2 )“Dangerous lunacy” are the words King Claudius chooses when he characterizes Hamlet's recent behavior (3.1.4)
3) While King Claudius is looking for the cause of Hamlet's “dangerous lunacy” Polonius, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, and Queen Gertrude offer different reasons (3.1.4).
