Trifles Assignment- Part A
I chose the first picture for the trailer ad to advertise for a movie version of “Trifles.” Just from reading the play and
how the women talked of Mrs. Wright, it seems this is how she felt. Before Minnie Foster married John Wright she
was full of joy and cheerful, then she turned quiet and queer. She had no children, a farm wife and was all alone
because no one came to visit. They say her house was not pleasant and it made you feel uncomfortable. John
Wright was a good man who kept his word but showed no feeling towards anyone.
The other pictures I chose help give a western theme. You can tell by the dialect in the play this was an old
western play. The second picture could be used to show people where the Wright’s lived. The picture of all the
men talking could represent Mr. Hale, the county attorney & Sheriff discussing matters about John Wright’s death.
The next picture with the woman & man could represent the “happy” couple.
The last picture is my favorite because it shows how Minnie felt with her bird. She was happy when she could
sing with her bird. It brought her joy & I think John took that from her as well. She was like a bird herself, caged in
all the time. This represents how she wanted to be, “FREE” with no care in the world.
Trifles Assignment-Part B
Music Selection-
Pain (Three Days Grace)
Tainted Love (various artists)
I listen to a variety of music, though it is still hard to pick songs out! I feel like these two could be used to
represent Minnie Foster. Tainted love could be used because she doesn’t really know what love is because she is
trapped in a cage by her husband therefore she is comfortable with what she has because she became
accustomed to this lifestyle since that is what women did back in those days. Pain could represent how she feels.
She is going through some type of abuse, not physical but psychological which is just as bad. She used to full of
joy and now she is a lonely depressed woman who is scared and wants out of her cage.
Is there life out there? (Reba McEntire)
I chose this song because it talks about a young girl who married young & did what she had to do for her family.
Now is wondering what the world has to offer because she knows nothing of the outside world.
Empty (Seether)
This song is appropriate for the whole situation because everyone feels this way after finding Mr. Wright is dead.
The women feel they should have came to visit more often because then maybe they would have known how
Mrs. Wright felt. Mrs. Wright is in shock and does not know how to react. Mr. Wright mostly I feel was the one who
was empty inside because he showed no emotion as if he did not have a heart.
Trifles Assignment- Part C
Character SelectionCounty Attorney-
Colin Ferral
He fits the role of any movie he plays in, especially when he has his rustic look. He would fit this role very well
because he is sneaky & is good at looking for trouble you could say.
Sheriff-
Densiel Washington
Plays a great detective role, which is what he usually plays in most of his movies. I loved his movie “Déjà vu”
Mrs. Peters (sheriff’s wife)-
Nicole Kidman
She just fits the old western theme well. She played in “Moulin Rouge” She looks & an act classy which is what
women in those days did, stay to their man.
Mr. Hale-
George Clooney
He played a country role in “O Brother where art thou?” I figure he would fit the profile of a small townsman.
Mrs. Hale-
Reese Witherspoon
I have seen her in a couple of movies, where she is dressed western or poor living. She has that baby/fragile face
that fits the theme perfect.
John Wright-
Brad Pitt
He has played many different roles. He has played in a few select western movies where he had the main
character role. Most of the time he plays as someone who shows no sympathy as well as having a cold side.
Minnie Foster Wright-
Angelina Jolie
She has also played various characters. She has a mysterious side to her that a lot of actors/actresses do not.
She plays any role she is approached with very well. She played well in “Taking Lives” which is similar to this
play.
