Individual Service Project
As members of the National Honor Society, students are required to complete an individual
service project. Projects must be completed during the student’s tenure as an inducted member of
NHS. The focus of the project should reflect the individual’s talents. The requirements are as
follows:
1. Service projects need to be completed and turned in no later than our April member
meeting. You may begin your project as soon as you have been preapproved. This
includes over the summer!
2. Project approval letter must be included in your final project.
3. Project will be a minimum of five hours. Itemize time in final project.
4. Projects are individual unless preapproved. If you are approved to work with a partner,
each of you will still need to complete your own reflection; the five questions below.
5. The NHS sponsors will review the reports and reserves the right to withhold stole
privileges to members who do not satisfactorily fulfill the requirement.
6. Students must provide a minimum of five photographs of the event; two of which need
to include the NHS member.
7. Quantify your efforts. For example, if you are making blankets, explicitly state how
many you were able to make.
8. If you are conducting a service project that will include handouts, PPT’s, lesson plan, etc.
you will need to include them as part of your final project.
9. Cleaning parks, drives of any sort, and fundraisers will not be approved. The focus of
your project is to provide a service to the community.
10. Students must include a letter of recognition from the organization specifying the
service provided. This is a must! Without a letter of acknowledgement, your project
will be considered unsatisfactory and stole privileges will be revoked.

focusing upon leadership, scholarship, character, and community service.

a. Explicit detail of how your time was utilized. Include all aspects from start to finish.
This should be in increments of minutes and/or hours.
b. Pictures of the event
c. Hard copy of presentation, PPT’s, lesson plans, etc. if applicable.
