TRUTH ADVOCATES SPEECH WORKSHOP
Do you have a child who is shy, reluctant to speak in front of a group or even reluctant to meet new people? Or do
you have a child who is the life of the party, always interested in being up front, but needs to learn how to master
his skills to be effective.
Then consider taking the Truth Advocates Speech and Debate Club's SPEECH WORKSHOP. Registration form below.
Public Speaking Workshop (Two day-Ages 12-18 and One day-8-11)
Date: Friday/Saturday- July 31/August 1, 2009 (Ages 12-18-Two day - July31/Aug 1) ( One day-Ages 8-11 August 1)
Location: First Southern Baptist Church, 215 E. Ettels Lane. Clarksville, IN 47129 (Just over the bridge from
Louisville) Off of I-65 North at the Eastern Blvd. Exit #2 - turn left at the top of the exit ramp and go about a mile to
Ettels Ln (by a car wash on the left). Turn left and the church is on the right –less than a block.
Cost: $55 for 12-18 yr. olds, $30 for 8-11 yr. olds (Early Bird Discount-postmarked by July 10 is $50/2 day and $25/1
day)
Deadline to register –must be postmarked by July 21. and email the registration by July 21. (Late reg. after July 21
$65 for two day $40 for one day.)

Truth Advocates Speech and Debate club is offering a one day Beginning Public Speaking Workshop for children
ages 8-11 (Aug 1 Saturday) and a two day Introduction to Speech Workshop for ages 12-18. (July 31 and Aug 1) 11
yr olds with prior experience can attend the two day workshop. Parents of students attend at no additional charge.
Learn:The Beginning Public Speaking students ages 8-11 will learn about everything from being a good audience to
giving speeches with props.
Students ages 12-18 will learn how to write a speech, persuasive speaking, expository speaking, impromptu
speaking, interpretive events, apologetics, how to compete in speech in the homeschool NCFCA and more. You
will have the opportunity to see your child perform in a fun setting with other students.
We will also offer parent/coaching sessions. We hope to see you there.

One Day Beginning Public Speaking Students (ages 8-11) Saturday, Aug 1
Conference Assignment:
Bring: Should come prepared with a speech one minute or less. This could be a poem, verses, story or something
they have written themselves. They should also come prepared to tell a joke (parental approval advised)
Learn: Students learn about speaking with expression, about interpretation and using humor. They learn how to
construct speeches, such as expository, humorous, and impromptu. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m, and closing is
by 3:30 p.m. Parents are encouraged to come, and may attend free when accompanying a paying student.
Students are welcome to stay and watch closing fun skits presented by the two day workshop students.

One should be Interpretive. This could be a poem, verses, story or section from literature. Memorization is
preferred-but a script is fine.
The second speech should be something they have written themselves. It could be persuasive, original oratory on
any subject or an expository speech.
Learn: More in depth than the one day workshop, students learn about speaking with expression, about
interpretation and using humor. They learn how to construct speeches, such as expository, humorous, and
impromptu. Students will work on a group skit to present to their parents. Parents attend free when
accompanying a paying student. A parent should accompany their child or a chaperone with a signed release form.
TRUTH ADVOCATES SPEECH WORKSHOP
Dress
Modest casual attire. Students are required to follow the dress code.
Guys: Neat jeans and modest shirts are acceptable; please no tee shirts with offensive logo's or wording are
allowed. Thanks. No shorts please. No underwear showing or low hanging pants.
Young Ladies -modest clothing-Jeans OK. Please-no tight fitting jeans. Absolutely NO tank tops or shirts with
spaghetti straps are allowed. Ladies, please no tight shirts or cleavage showing or that show your midriff when
arms are raised. Skirts should be below the knee. No shorts-Capris below the knee OK.
Supplies
Provided by workshop:
- (Two day) A 3-ring binder containing the all lecture notes for the workshop.
- (One day) Lecture notes: - Pen
Lunches
On your own-we suggest bringing sandwiches.
If you need to buy a lunch -a parent will need to go 30 min before lunch to bring back food.
