Dear Parents,
February is a busy month in second grade! We will be
learning about famous African-Americans, U.S. Presidents,
and prominent women. Your child will choose a famous
February person to research, and complete a Famous February
People friendly letter and visual presentation to share with
their classmates.
We are asking that you help your child choose a famous
person to learn more about, and locate an age appropriate
biography about that person. Please inform us of your choice
by completing the form below and sending it to school no later
than Monday, February 7th. If you have any trouble locating a
book, please let us know as soon as possible. We may have a
book in our classroom or school library that your child can
borrow to complete their research.
Your child will read the biography at home and complete
the attached prewriting sheet using information from the
book. The prewriting sheet is due in class on Tuesday,
February 15th. We will check this for completion and send it
home again so that your child can write a rough and final draft
from it. Additionally, please assist your child in creating some
kind of visual project to accompany his/her report. The
students are encouraged to use their imagination when
creating their visual. In the past, students have dressed up like
their famous person, made a poster, created a timeline of
events, or brought in photographs or objects related to their
person. The students will present their book projects on
Thursday, February 24th during Reading from 9:45-11:00.
Parents are invited to come in and watch the presentations.
