DRAFT BAS-Technology Management Proposal We are proposing a new subplan specialization in BAS to replace the existing BAS-Computer Technology (BAS-CT). The existing BAS-CT specialization was created with the initiation of the BAS degree using existing courses from the computer information systems major. The courses currently used are in management information systems, database, and Web technology and development. The existing specialization and the courses offered are only appropriate for students who complete a software development AAS degree. The proposed specialization will provide greater flexibility and courses that add value to a greater variety of AAS degree programs in the computer technology area. The W. A. Franke College of Business will discontinue the existing BAS-CT as soon as possible. It is assumed that the student will receive sufficient detailed technical background within the 64 credit hours of their AAS degree program to be successful in an entry level technologically related field. The purpose of the specialization in BAS-Technology Management (BAS-TM) will be to add value to the detailed technical preparation with appropriate courses in the management of technology that would allow the student graduating with this degree to accept a position with leadership responsibilities and able to lead or manage technology projects by being an effective team member or team leader. The change in specialization will provide a more appropriate bachelor degree completion path for students in a variety of computer related AAS degree programs. Students with AAS degrees in computer software development, Web technologies and development, network system administration, network security, and information assurance would be able to use this program.
