Major Tourism Research Paper/Presentation
BuAd 206: The Business of Tourism
Winter 2009
Research Project (Report & Presentation):
This research paper and corresponding in-class presentation will be done in groups of
four.
Research Paper
This paper is to be no more than 20 double-spaced word processed pages, excluding
Title Page, Bibliography, Table of Contents, Appendices etc., with a font size of 12 pts.
You are to select a subject that you want to learn about in Tourism (some ideas below).
Your topic must be approved by your professor (via webct email) by January 30th,
2009.
The report will be of professional report quality and be well researched. You must
accurately and completely cite at least 10 different sources from books, research
journals, magazine articles, the ‘www’ or videos. Only 5 can be ‘www’ references. The
format for the report, including references will follow the APA Guidelines. You will
submit one hard copy (paper) and one electronic copy via webct email. Papers received
only by email will not be marked. The Research Report is due on April 2nd, 2009 and
is worth 20% of your total mark.
Papers are due at the beginning of class on the due date. Work received after that time
is considered overdue. A 10% reduction of the maximum possible mark will be imposed
for each day that the work is late (including due date). No work will be accepted after 5
working days have passed. All submitted work should indicate a comprehension of the
business communication courses that have been undertaken and marks will be
deducted up to 20% for spelling, grammatical and organizational errors.
Research Paper Proposal:
A one-page memo identifying your group, topic and what you hope to demonstrate in
your paper (thesis) is due by February 12th, 2009. In addition attach a bibliography
showing the ten or more research sources you intend to use. You will then have
approximately 5 weeks before class presentations will begin to complete this project.
Research Project In-class Presentation:
You will also be required to make a 12-15 minute group PowerPoint presentation to the
class to illustrate and explain your research report. This presentation is work 15% of
your mark.
