Ruti Machnai bio, Israeli born, Cellist and vocalist Ruti Machnai, has been enjoying making music for the past 25 years. Multi talented in the fields of music production- audio engineering, beat programming, sound mixing, mastering as well as song writing. Plays keyboards, guitar and bass. Classically trained. Has extensive orchestral and chamber music experience. Became a member of the New World Symphony, (Miami, FL), after completing her studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, (Boston MA). Ever since moving to the USA, Ruti has enjoyed a tremendous amount of music making that was equally inspiring her to perform at the highest level and to integrate her skills as a classical performer with other musicians. Loves the beauty of fusing different genres and styles of music since it represents to her the blending of cultures, ages, influences, sounds, beats, vibes and places Musical Influences: Classical influences1. Improvisation for classical instrumental performerswhile studying at the Wizo Canada school of the arts in my home town, Haifa, i experienced some of the greatest moments in my life during a special class that was given once a week for all of us, instrumentalist. This class involved a great deal of both free and structured improvisation that was pretty much an exploration in the “art of the moment”. The experiments during the class were presented twice a year to a large audience which encouraged us, the performers, to bring our absolute best. I later discovered that the enthusiasm in my performance on the stage is largely influenced by the fire and excitement improve class had given me. 2. The Guarneri QuartetOne of the greatest quartets of our times. Their perfect blending and intense listening skills inspired me in my chamber music playing. 3. Orchestral experienceIn my first orchestral rehearsal ever, (July 1988), I experienced the sensation of very powerful and low vibrations coming right into my feet. The vibrations were from the cellos and basses, that are attached to the floor. It gave me goose bums like no other musical experience had given me before and I fall in love with orchestral playing. 4. Early music workshops in Jerusalem – playing on a viola de gamba as well as utilizing the “Baroque bow technique” was very enjoyable during those few weeks of workshops. This genre of music was very soothing to me because of its simplicity. Jazz/ main stream influences: 1. Recordings/ performances at Berkley. While attending school in Boston I had the privilege to work with numerous of musicians from Berkley College of music, an experience that brought me closer to other genres of music and helped me appreciate the hard work of other performers. 2. Listening to Stephan Grapeli, Danjo Reinhard, Keith Jared and Chikorea from early age 3. listening to Abba, The Beatles, Mike Oldfield, Queen, Peter Gabriel and Sting from early age.
