1. Your assignment is to write an essay that explores Elie Wiesel’s possible loss of
faith in the book Night. Make sure your responses are thorough and thoughtful.
Use specific evidence from the book by citing the pages and write in welldeveloped paragraphs using details and complete sentences.
2. The essay should include the following elements:
a. Start your essay by taking a stand on this issue. Explain what you think
happens to his faith over the course of the book.
b. Next, cite evidence to support your explanation. Wiesel consistently
refers to his religion throughout the book. Provide at least three specific
examples, including page numbers, from the book that illustrate what you
believe happens to Wiesel’s faith.
Examples:
I think the title of the book Night represents EW loss of faith in himself
and his god.. because much of time when he was a prisoner he felt like he was in
a very bad nightmare…Night and darkness might represent fear of the
unknown….Night represents how their minds shut down…
On page 27 “I glanced at my father, ….” Shows going blank. “From the
depths of the mirror, the corpse gazed back me…” (83)
3. Your paper should include an introductory paragraph that states your argument
about what happens to Wiesel’s faith as the book unfolds. The body of the paper
needs to include at least three citations that support your argument. The paper
must have a concluding paragraph.
