A Reading from the letter of Paul to the CorinthiansThe body is one and has many members, but all the members, many though
they are, are one body; and so it is with Christ. It was in one Spirit that all of
us were baptized into one body. All of us have been given to drink of the
one Spirit.
The Word of the Lord. “Thanks be to God.”

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew:
Jesus came up and spoke to his disciples. He said, “All authority in heaven
and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore, and make disciples of all
the nations; baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And
know that I am with you always, yes to the end of time.

Preist/Deacon:
Almighty and ever living God,
You sent your only Son into the world
To rescue us from the slavery of sin and to
Give us the freedom of the Children of God
And bring them into your Kingdom of Light.
We now pray for these children,
Set them free from original sin,
Make them temples of your glory,
And send your Holy Spirit to dwell within them.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
We will now pray the Litany of the Saints, while we do so I will be doing an
anointing of the babies chests, please open the neckline of their outfits and
3
then please will the parents, godparents and babies follow me to the font to
prepare for Baptism.
During Litany, go to each child and do first anointing of chest.
-While the Litany is sung the priest or deacon will go to each child and
perform the pre-anointing if he so wishes. The prayer is done silently. The
parents, godparents and babies will follow you to the font to continue the
Rite.
In order to save time, you may omit the Blessing of the Water as the water
is already blessed.
_____________________________________________________________
BLESSING OF WATER – (You may also bless the water beforehand if you wish to save time)
PRESIDER: My brothers and sisters,
Let us ask the Lord our God to bless this water created to give life,
Which we use now in Baptism.
(pause – music underscoring this prayer)
LORD OUR GOD,
You give us grace through sacramental signs,
which tell us of the wonders of your unseen power.
In Baptism we use your gift of water,
which you have made a rich symbol of the grace you give us in this
sacrament. At the very dawn of creation
your Spirit breathed on the waters,
making them the wellspring of all life and holiness.
In the waters of the great flood
you made a sign of the waters of baptism
that make and end of sin and a new beginning of goodness.
Through the waters of the Red Sea
you led Israel out of slavery to be an image
of God’s holy people.
In the waters of the Jordan River
your Son was baptized by John
and anointed with the Spirit.
Jesus willed that water and blood should flow from his side as he
hung upon the cross for us.
After his resurrection he told his disciples:
Go out and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Father, look now with love upon your Church
4
and unseal for it the fountain of baptism. +
By the power of the Holy Spirit give to this water
the grace of your Son,
so that in the sacrament of baptism
all those whom you have created in your likeness
may be cleansed from sin
and rise to a new birth of innocence
by water and the Holy Spirit.
May all who are buried with Christ in the death
of baptism rise also with him to newness of life.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
PROFESSION OF FAITHPriest/Deacon: Will the parents and godparents please stand..
My friends, on your part you must make it your constant care to bring these
children up in the practice of our faith. See that the divine life, which God
has given to them is kept safe from the poison of sin, to grow always
stronger in their hearts. If your faith makes you ready to accept this
responsibility, renew now the vows of your own baptism. Reject sin;
profess your faith in Christ Jesus. This is the faith of the Church and the
faith into which these children are about to be baptized.
And so I ask you and all here present:
DO YOU REJECT SATAN, PRINCE OF DARKNESS?
AND ALL HIS WORKS AND EMPTY PROMISES?
I DO.
DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD, THE FATHER ALMIGHTY,
CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH?
WE DO
DO YOU BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST, HIS ONLY SON, OUR LORD,
WHO WAS BORN OF THE VIRGIN MARY,
WAS CRUCIFIED, DIED AND WAS BURIED,
WHO ROSE FROM THE DEAD AND IS NOW SEATED AND THE
RIGHT HAD OF THE FATHER?
WE DO
DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT, THE HOLY CATHOLIC
CHURCH, THE COMMUNION OF SAINTS, THE FORGIVENESS OF
5
SINS, THE RESURRECTION OF THE BODY, AND LIFE
EVERLASTING.
WE DO
THIS IS OUR FAITH, THE FAITH OF THE CHURCH, AND WE ARE
PROUD TO PROFESS IT IN JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.
AMEN.
