The meeting was formally opened. Items starred for discussion in today’s meeting were; 8e. A vote was held to approve all un-starred items: For: 87, Against: 6, Abstain: 7 All un-starred items on the agenda were approved by Guild Council. 3 Approval of Previous Minutes Approval of previous minutes may 10 The minutes of the 10/05/10 Guild council were viewed. A vote was held to approve the minutes as an accurate record. For: 94, Against: 3, Abstain: 3. The minutes were passed as an accurate record. 4 Elections An election for Equality and Diversity Committee was held. Candidates: Claire Lister, Rob Sassoon, Emma Atkins, Anna Lawton. A vote was held. Claire Lister, Rob Sassoon, Emma Atkins, Anna Lawton were all duly elected to Equality and Diversity Committee. 5 6 Actions Outstanding Communications There were no actions outstanding. VPHC communicates that the Residents Executive handout is incorrect Guild Council need to refer to the front page only VPSAD communicates that community day was a big success and thanks all the societies that took part President communicates that the Vice Chancellor also sent an email to all staff saying how successful the event was and how impressed he was with the Guild’s involvement. President communicates that there is to be a Chinese supermarket in the “Old Snooker Room” behind the Page 2 of 7 underground. LGBTQ Officer communicates that the GOG report says that his blog has been updated but it hasn’t yet. LGBTQ communicates that it has been a privilege and thanks the sabbs, staff, students and Guild Councillors. 7 Questions, Suggestions, Scrutiny and Reports Rob Hunter asks the President about the Browne Review and if the guild going to work with NUS to protect students. President replies that it is a huge threat and that the Guild will work with NUS locally. James Williams asks the President about the disciplinary policy and its progress. President reports that it will be in place for next year. Laura Beckman asks why the last Guild Councils antisemitism motion was handled in the way it was . How could the chairs just reject an amendment out of hand? VPDR hands the question to the Chairs. Steven Johnson stepped down from chair. Steven Johnson says that the Chairs have the power to reject an amendment if they feel that the meaning of the motion is being fundamentally changed. There was opportunity for Guild Council to challenge that ruling at the time. Chris Bates proposes a commendation for the VPHC. A vote was held on the commendation. For: 95 Against: 5 Guild Council commended the VPHC Rachel Cice proposes a commendation for the VPW. A vote was held on the commendation. The HLM report was ratified by Guild Council Vicky Barber proposes Honorary Life Membership for the VPHC. A vote was held. Yes: 78, No: 22.
