Job Title:

Overview
The Cathedral Housekeeper is responsible for the efficient, effective and timely cleaning of the Cathedral,
maintaining the high standards expected as set down in the role description.
Context
The post-holder will work closely with the Virging Team who have overall responsibility for the care and
security of the Cathedral Building.
The post reports to the Dean’s Virger.
Principal Tasks
1. General Cleanliness of the Cathedral Undercroft and Crypt as set out on the daily duty sheets
include:

2. General Cleaning of the Cathedral Offices in Church House as per the cleaning schedule.
3. Occasional deep cleaning of the above areas as agreed with the Dean’s Virger.
4. Occasional Cleaning in the worship area of the Cathedral as required by the Dean’s Virger.

SUMMARY TERMS AND CONDITIONS
This post is open to candidates who are in sympathy with the aims and objectives of the Christian Church
and the Anglican tradition. The Cathedral encourages equal opportunities.
The person appointed will be employed by Blackburn Cathedral Chapter at its offices, located at Cathedral
Close Blackburn BB1 5AA.
1. Salary: £ 8,190 reviewable January of each year
2. Hours: Normal hours are 22.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday 8am to 12.30pm. At busy
periods overtime may be offered.
3. Holidays: 28 days (126 hrs) plus bank holidays.
4. Pension: Automatic enrolment into the Cathedral Pension Scheme after the probationary
Period.
5. Probationary period: 3 months.
6. Notice period: During the probationary period, the notice period is one week on either side.
After that, the Cathedral or the employee can give one months notice.
7. References: The names and contact details of two referees will be required.
8. DBS: This post is subject to satisfactory disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
