Early registration deadline is before December 31st. THE CRIB AND THE CROSS I like Christmas. This is a wonderful time of year. You can help others seem to be more pleasant and happy. Like some have said, “If it could only last all year.” It is great to give gifts, but I must admit that I really like getting them. It costs less!! With all the Holly Day talk, we forget that we need to think about Christ. Some act like they want to ignore Christ’s birth. To have a life you must have a birth. If the Bible had nothing about His birth, we might not know about His virgin birth or the story of Mary and Joseph’s travel. We wouldn’t know about the angels telling Mary about her upcoming child. We wouldn’t know of Joseph and his listening to the angel telling him to marry Mary. There are so many other things that we wouldn’t know. (Matt. 2) I see three reactions to the birth of Christ: 1. Some are hostile and hate it like Herod. (Matt. 12:3) Herod was afraid of the child Jesus even as a baby. Why would people be afraid of a story about a baby being born? Maybe like Herod, this baby poses a threat to them. Why be afraid if Jesus was only a baby? 2. Some are indifferent to the birth of Christ like the priest. (Matt 12:5) They were so involved in religion that they had no time for Christ. How many services are attended by those that don’t come to Church anymore? Some religious groups deny the virgin birth and the resurrection of Christ. If it were not for the historical record, they might deny that He ever lived. 3. There are those that want to worship at His feet like the magi or wise men did. (Matt. 12:2) The gift we should bring to Christ is our heart. Is there anything greater we could give for the one who saves our soul and is always helping us? There was a child born in a stable in Bethlehem who saves people. (Matt. 1:21) Jesus was born – don’t try to deny it. But remember what He did for our soul and the birth is not a terrible thing. Charles
