First Day Class Meeting today at 6:10 PM in Bartley Room
- First Day Class Meeting today - We will meet today, Monday,
May 23 at 6:10 in Bartley Hall, Room TBA. From 6:10 to 7:00 we will briefly discuss the
course content as well as demonstrating some procedures such as how to submit
homework assignments each Half-Week using our "Submit Homework" tool on Web CT.
We will also form teams for our team project. Accessing issues such as firewalls at work
and browser problems will also be discussed. My syllabus and other related files will be
emailed to you one week before our first class. If you would like to get started on the
course I suggest you read Chapter 1 and 2 of the Atkinson text. . At 7:15 Professor
Michael Walsh will teach the Business Law Module for this course.

Begin Midterm Exam Window
- Begin Midterm Exam Window - The Midterm Exam will be
available from Monday, June 13 to Thursday, June 16. THE MIDTERM EXAM
COVERS CHAPTERS 1 THROUGH 5. There are two parts of the exam. Part 1 contains
multiple-choice questions that you will answer on Web CT (click on Quizzes) - you will
have a TIME LIMIT OF 130 MINUTES time limit to complete the 51 multiple choice
questions in Part 1. Part 2 will include several problems. I will email Part 2 to you by
Sunday, June 11 at 2:00 PM. You will please complete Part 2 (as a take-home exam) and
submit the problems by June 16 using the "Submit Homework" tool. Please submit Part 2
on one Excel file with the answer to problem 1 on Sheet 1, problem 2 on Sheet 2 etc.

- - Half-Week #9 Specifics - By now you should have (1) read
Chapter 6 and viewed the Chapter 6 PowerPoint Narration Slides and worked Level 1
items: Exercises 6-18, 20 & 23 (solutions for these Level 1 items have been integrated
into the PowerPoint Narration Slides) and read Chapter 7 (Chapter 7 is a read only
chapter – there is no PowerPoint Narration lecture). There are no Level 2 Problems due
this Half-Week. ALSO – the Wall Street Journal Assignment is DUE TODAY – The
requirements are: (1) Read and save one article that is relevant to the topic of E Business
OR any topic covered in ACC 8110; (2) Write a short synopsis; (3) Submit this write-up

working on the Balanced Scorecard project. The project should take 5 to 8 attempts to
complete - I suggest you limit your total work time on the project to 12 hours. If you

Saturday, July 16 Team Project Due - Birch Paper Case
- Team Project Requirements: Each team will prepare and submit a formal, written case
analysis of Harvard Business School Case #9-158-001: Birch Paper Co. (available online
at Harvard Business School Publishing). This analysis should be typed, double-spaced
and limited to 4 pages plus Exhibits. The analysis should address the Assignment
Questions below AND ANY OTHER KEY ISSUES IDENTIFIED BY EACH TEAM.
[ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS: (1) Which bid should Mr. Kenton accept? (2) Which bid
is in the best interests of Birch Paper Company? (3) Should the commercial vicepresident intervene? If so, how?] Before analyzing the Birch Paper Case students should
read Chapter 12 (pages 541-550) and view the Chapter 12 PowerPoint Narration Slides
on the topic of transfer pricing. Please have one team member submit the Team Project
using the “Submit Homework” tool in Web CT. This submission should be on ONE

be completed by Wednesday, July 20 at 11:59 PM. THE FINAL EXAM WILL COVER
CHAPTERS 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. (Note there will be a few multiple choice
questions in Part 1 on Chapters 7 and 9 and no problems in Part 2 on these two chapters the only coverage from Chapter 8 will be 5 multiple choice ethics question in Part 2 there will be no Chapter 8 questions in Part 1) Please submit the Problem section (Part 2)
