Our school is wired and connected to the Internet, which is a connection of thousands of computer networks. This can provide our students access to information that would otherwise be unavailable to them. The District is not responsible for information available from other computer systems, which could present some problems. There is information not appropriate for an educational setting; and we do not support or condone the use of these types of materials and will not allow the use of such materials in our school environment. The Climax-Shelly School District 592 reserves the right to monitor all electronic communications in accordance with Policy #97081805. We believe that everyone needs to share responsibility in the education of our children. The school staff will take an active role in ensuring that students will understand and have skills needed to use the Internet in an appropriate manner. Parents also share responsibility by teaching their children the standards they should follow when using these informational sources. The students will be expected to follow the guidelines set forth in this Use-Policy. The use of this system shall be consistent with district policy, state laws, and federal laws. This policy outlines the guidelines for acceptable use, prohibited use, penalties for violations of the policy, and a student-access contract to be signed by the student and parents. The school administration reserves the right to determine what is appropriate on such items that may not be mentioned in the guidelines. Usage for a class under the direct supervision of a teacher will be allowed. Privileges will be restored when the student receives a passing grade on the next grading period. A student with an Incomplete may not use the Internet until a passing grade is attained. 5) Downloading information is allowed as long as no copyright laws are violated. 6) Anything printed or downloaded must be for classroom purposes, not for your own entertainment. 7) It is the student’s responsibility to keep their e-mail appropriate. You cannot control what is sent or forwarded to you. Report inappropriate mail to the teacher before deleting it. System users and parents of system users assume full responsibility for any charges incurred. - Private or commercial business use. - System vandalism will result in cancellation of system use privileges. Fines or restitution imposed for acts of vandalism, which is defined as any malicious attempt to harm or destroy district equipment, materials, or data, will be the responsibility of the student and parent. - Use of alternative e-mail systems. We provide e-mail to every student and for security reasons cannot allow these email providers to be used in the ISD #592 school building- Sending or forwarding of inappropriate e-mail. First Offense- 90 school days off the internet and/or e-mail; unless required for a class and under the direct supervision of the teacher. Meeting with parents, school faculty and administration. Second Offense- One full year from the date of the offense, off the Internet and e-mail; unless required for a class and under the direct supervision of the teacher. Meeting with parents, school faculty and administration. Third Offense- No future access to the Internet and e-mail through graduation date; unless required for a class and under the direct supervision of the teacher. Meeting with parents, school faculty and administration. AUTHORITIES MAY BE CALLED IN AT ANY TIME IF DEEMED NECESSARY.
