Happyhansel Primary School At Happyhansel Primary School, pupils are encouraged to develop their understanding and use of the internet. As well as providing a rich source of information, the internet is increasingly becoming an essential tool for learning. To enable pupils to develop these skills, the school is equipped with a computer network system through which children are given access to the internet under staff guidance and supervision. The school’s computer network incorporates a filtering system provided by Shetland Islands Council to minimise the possibility of unacceptable sites being accessible to school users. However, it must be recognised that no matter how rigorous the filtering we can never guarantee with absolute certainty the complete elimination of all unsuitable material. It is therefore essential that teachers and parents make every effort to educate our children in their responsibilities regarding acceptable use of the internet and e-mail. Teaching and non-teaching staff may also be required to access the internet and make use of e-mail in the course of their professional duties. It is therefore important that all staff only use the internet in accordance with the school’s policy, and that while at school they do not access the internet or make use of e-mail for any unauthorised purpose. Parents, pupils and staff all have a responsibility to ensure that use of the internet and e-mail is carried out in an acceptable manner. Therefore: Page 1 Happyhansel Primary School Parents will be asked to sign an agreement for their children to use the internet at school under staff supervision.
