Thank you speech Dear distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen Thank you for gracing our happy occasion with your presence here today. It really means a lot to have here, so many family and friends to give us your congratulations and blessings. We are indeed, very honored and touched to have you here, especially on a Blue Monday night. Against the traditions that brides are meant to be seen and not heard, I thought it is only appropriate that the bride speaks for herself at her wedding dinner. Anyone who knows me well enough will know it is hard for me to shut up and today is no exception. Eric and I have been together for almost 3 years. It took him only 2 months on 23 August 1999 to propose marriage. These are his exact word: “ If nothing goes wrong, we should be married a year from now.” Seriously at that point in time, I wonder what had motivated him to do so. I presume I must have been good enough! Some of you might wonder why I know he is the one for me. A lot of people asked if I thought I was too young to be married. I was only 22. All I know then was he is a terrific man. I am sure all of you will laugh out loud if I say this but I have to say it. He was like a handsome prince on a white horse dream come true. Someone who would love to see me everyday, despite heavy working schedules and play. Someone who thinks I am sunshine in his life. Of course we do have our fair share of ups and downs. And there are times when we thought that we should not continue on with the marriage. But at the end of the day, the most important thing is that we know that we do love each other. Life, wouldn’t be quite empty and colourless with him. It is more fun to have someone who snatches my blanket at night and then tell me in the morning that the aircon is probably out of order the night before. Someone who insisted on kicking away his pillow and bolster and steal mine in the middle of the night. I think yes, this is marriage. And I know, other than this pillow and blanket stealing crimes, he will protect me with his life. And I like to say thank you darling, for loving me. For kissing in the morning even though you could have felt like kissing a monster with uncombed hair, unbrushed teeth and un-make up face. I love you sweetheart. Truly. I know this is getting way too long. But I just want to thank you to my parents for bringing me up the way they did. To the best of their abilities. My eldest brother Michael, for sharing with us his first fruits of labour. I will always remember the blue Giordano T-shirt he bought for me with his first pay check. My sister-in-law Lay Geok, for bringing joy to his life. My second brother James, for being always cheerful and humourous and for loving my soft toys the way I love them when we were younger. A thank you to my parents in law for bringing up for their son to be the fine man he is now. And for welcoming me with open arms to the family. All our friends who have help so much in this event. My bridesmaids, Cyndi, Jess, Winnie and Careen, along with Simon, Nigel, Thomas, Edmund who help me with the wedding preparations and keeping me company when Eric was in Saudi 3 weeks before the wedding. And especially to mention Cyndi, my best friend, my sister-in-law, the one who brought Eric and I together. She gave a most precious gift to me in this life and that is her brother. I won’t be able to thank her enough for the things she has done for me. But I want her to know that she will always be in my heart and that I wish that she will always be happy and would have the joy of what I am feeling tonight. .
