As a major project for this grading period, you will create a 3-4 page newspaper based on the novel
Frankenstein. Point of view plays a large part in the novel, and since the story is told mainly through
letters, we will use other genres of writing (newspaper articles) to explore the elements of plot,
character, setting, and theme in multiple well-written pieces.
Your newspaper must include the following:






An obituary section with obituaries based on the story (you must include everyone who was
killed over the course of the story). 20 pts. total
A personals section, in which you include personal ads from all those who are lonely or
longing for someone in the story (must include at least three). 9 pts. total
A travel section, in which at least five different places from the novel are described in a
travel-ad style. 25 pts. total
A gossip column with at least ten sentences total (consider creature sightings, information
about Justine’s hanging, etc.). 10 pts. total
You must include at least 5 direct quotations from the book and cite the page numbers from which
the quotations came.
Your grade will be based on:
 Completion
 Accuracy of facts
 Grammar and Mechanics
 Presentation and Formatting
 Attention to Details
Your newspaper deadline is Friday, February 22nd, 2007. This project is a MAJOR part of your 3rd
quarter grade, and there are no excuses for any late work. However, late work will be accepted with
a ten point deduction for each day it is late!
Let me know if you need to stay after school for help or to use the computer. Late projects will be
deducted 10 points for each day late.
