The Hunger Games: Utopia / Dystopia

Utopia
As we begin The Hunger Games, think about your own vision of a perfect society. In
groups of no more than five, create your own utopia. Write a description of this perfect
society. In your description, be sure to answer the following questions:








What is the name of your society? Why did you decide on this name?
What are some of the most important features of your society? What makes it a
perfect society? How is it different from the way things are done in the US
today?
Who is in charge? How is this decided?
How is order maintained? Do you have laws? What are they?
How are people disciplined or rewarded for behavior? Who decides?
What happens if people disagree on something?
How are jobs / societal roles in your society decided? Who does the jobs no on
else wants?
What problems with your utopia do you forsee.
Your description should be approximately 2-3 pages, typed, and double-spaced. Don’t
forget to write the names of all the member of your group.
Flag
When you’ve finished your description of your society, create a flag, symbol, or seal for
your utopia that represents the driving ideas in your society. It should include at least
three symbols and a motto that also represents these ideas. Don’t forget a name or title
for your society. On the back or on an attached sheet of paper, write a short description
of this flag/symbol/seal and what it means.
Presentation
For extra credit, you may share your utopia with the class in a very brief, informal
presentation.
