“There Are No Children Here”
(70 points)
Due Friday December 4th - No Exceptions
There are three main components to the final assessment:
1) Write a book report summary of the There are No Children Here. It should be
typed and be between 2-4 pages. The book report should center on major
themes like poverty, family, deviance, race, etc. It should also include evidence
of your own sociological perspective and how it has changed by reading the
book for each of these themes. (20 points)
2) Analyze the book from a theoretical perspective that was assigned to your group
(Conflict or Functionalist Perspective). Include the definition of the perspective
that you will be using. Provide support from the book for your claims and
reference the page numbers in the analysis. (2-3 pages) (15 points)
3) Then, make the connection between concepts from the text to what is discussed
in the book. 3 points for each definition will be broken down as follows: 1 Point
for the Definition (In text Citation). 1 point for the direct quote or paraphrase
(In- text Citation for either) from TANCH and 1 point for the connection of how
the quote or paraphrase relates to the definition.
