Welcome Back!!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to a new school year! We are looking forward to both teaching your children this year, and
sharing in an exciting and busy year. If, at any time during the year, you should have questions, please do
not hesitate to contact us here at school by way of phone and/or email. We look forward to working together to
assist your children to achieve in all aspects of their education.
Sincerely,
Sixth Grade Team
Homework and Agendas
It is essential that each student be responsible for completing all assigned work both in class and at
home. Any work not completed in class will be assigned as homework. To ensure success in this area and to
encourage strong work habits and organizational skills we rely on the daily use of a student planner (agenda).
This assists students in remaining on track. Please check your child’s agenda nightly.
Students should set aside time each night for homework. This time may be used to complete unfinished
class work and/or read. If your child has worked diligently at home but was not able to finish his/her homework
within the suggested time period, a note would be very helpful to us!
Assignments/Tests/Quizzes
 Students will know well in advance of upcoming assignments and tests. (*Exception Spiral Quiz).
 Homework assignments will be checked regularly for completion and neatness.
 Tests and quizzes will be sent home at the end of each marking period so please check Home Access
periodically for grades.

Dear Parent,
Now it's easier than ever to find the right books for your child and help 6th grade earn
FREE books for their classroom libraries at the same time! With new online ordering from
Scholastic Book Clubs, you can choose from a much wider selection of books than in the printed
flyer. Plus, you can send your orders directly to me online and use your credit card. Best of all,
our classrooms earn a FREE book every time a parent places their order online.
It's so simple! Here's how it works:
 SIGN UP at www.Scholastic.com/bookclubs.
o On the parent page, click the "First Time Here?” link
o Register for your own username and password.
 When prompted, enter the one-time Class Activation Code shown below. This code
ensures that your order is sent to me.
 SELECT the books you'd like to order from over 500 titles available online...and take
advantage of online-only specials and discounts.
 SEND your order to me online by the due date. Books will be delivered directly to our
classroom, as always.
Of course, you can still order using the form from the printed flyer. But why not experience
for yourself how convenient it is to order online? Ordering online is fast, easy, and secure. Plus
all (3) classrooms benefit thanks to the FREE books we'll earn with every parent online order.
Why not go to www.Scholastic.com/bookclubs now to get started?

Sixth Grade Homework Policy
In sixth grade, students will be assigned homework. Time required to complete homework
depends on how well your child makes use of his/her time in school, and how he/she concentrates
at home.
We believe homework is important. It is helpful in reinforcing what has been learned in
class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, extends and generalizes concepts, teaches
responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits.
We expect all homework assignments to be completed and handed in on time. Missed or
incomplete assignments will have a negative impact on your child’s grades. A teacher may require a
student to remain indoors for recess to complete unfinished and/or incomplete work. (Student
handbook p. 16).
Students will be given an agenda in which they will be responsible to record their
assignments. It is important for you to ask to see your child’s agenda every night in order to
know what assignments are given and when they are due. The agenda will also indicate long-term
projects, up-coming tests, and other assignments. We also encourage parents to check the Home
Access Center link on the district website to be sure all assignments have been completed.
All students are responsible for making up class work/homework assignments missed because
of an absence. It shall be the student’s responsibility to complete the work missed when returning
to school. (Student handbook p. 19).
Homework is an important learning tool. Please work with your child to set up a daily
homework time and a quiet study environment.
Thank you for your cooperation and support. Please sign and return.
Sincerely,
Return this portion only.

Dear Parents,
We will be providing time each day, about mid-morning, for your child to have a light
snack. This is NOT to take the place of a good breakfast. Studies have shown that students
who eat a nutritious breakfast do better in school.
We feel that it is very important that each student has a snack each day. We are sure
that very few of us adults go from 8 A.M. until 1 P.M. without some type of nourishment.
Hopefully, this snack will give them a little extra energy until lunch at 1:20. Students should
also be better able to do their school work since they won’t be thinking about how hungry they
are at 12:00.
We would request that your child have a quick, quiet, non-messy, nutritious snack, which
can be eaten without disrupting the class. We will usually be reading to the class at this time or
they will be working on individual work. Students will not be allowed to share their snack with
other students.
If you have any questions concerning this, please call us at school. Thank you for your
cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely,
The 6th Grade Team
