Rough Draft on being a man & The Androgenous Man
In Paul Theroux’s being a man he goes over many things about how a man acts.
Well I do not really agree with mot of what he says, because he goes on to say that all
men are “soldierly” and that we stop thinking. I believe that he is trying to make men
more feminine and that just wont work. There is a reason for a mans masculinity just as
there is a reason for a woman’s femininity and there like 2 puzzle pieces you need them
both to go together. If you were to take a man that is “androgynous” and a women that is
feminine then things like yard work, fixing up a house, and other jobs that mainly men do
just might not get done because its like 2 of the same puzzle piece they just don’t fit
together.
Being a man means more than just masculinity and strength it means you have to
take care of wife and child, be there and supportive. When Paul Theroux talks about
being a man he said “the expression “Be A Man!” strikes me as insulting and abusive. It
means: be stupid, be unfeeling, obedient, solidarity, and stop thinking”. Well I’d just like
to say I think he is wrong when I hear “Be a Man!” I think act your age, Behave, Mind
your own business, stop slacking, think about what your about to do. To that effect I see a
big difference in both of our views so who can say that he is right yet am I right? We all
have our own views on this topic but Paul Theroux tries to give masculinity a bad name.

In today’s society the androgynous man may be accepted but its just like accepting
a highly motivated women. The androgynous man by Noel Perrin summed up mostly
stats that being too manly is bad. I do not believe that in reason of if we did not have any
true manly men who would take jobs like a builder or mechanic although I don’t know
for sure I would have to say that it wouldn’t be the androgynous man for they have
become weak and in my own personal view less than a women so they are pretty much
useless to society unless they get a desk job. You don’t really ever hear of an
androgynous man that does construction, pours concrete, does electrical, or is a
mechanic.
If you’ve ever took the time to think back into the past there were no androgynous
men it just didn’t work that way a man had to do many things like farm, house repairs,
minor car work, plus there is more than just them but today’s androgynous man is just too
unfamiliarized with the true feel of actual labor that they think it is bad to be manly
because manly means strong, not stupid but Noel says that if you are manly you are
automatically stupid. So he is wrong. A man can be weak in this society but it isn’t a
good thing and I believe that woman like masculinity more than the few writers who say
they don’t like masculinity.

Although I do not believe that men should be androgynous it goes against what we
are men are supposed to have strength and be strong and be the protector and if they are
androgynous then they definitely are not going to try to protect others it just doesn’t work
that way. The men are slowly starting to become feminine and that will lead to us all
looking alike wearing the same cloths and we will all have the same vehicles and houses.
If we all become weak there will be no more manly men to build houses and buildings
because long with everyone being the same they would have forgotten of the true hard
labor.
The movie Zoolander is a good example as to what Paul and Noel are trying to say
we are just dumb and we do what people tell us and I don’t believe that it should be that
way because men are not apes and do posses intelligence to go along with our brute
strength. Stereotypes are becoming more of a thing associated with men now so we have
switched roles and the woman are not stereotyped as much and men are trying to fall into
the stereotype and become androgynous and unmasculine which is wrong for so many
men.
It is most unfortunate that this is happening to most men and woman that we do
have to fall into these stereotypes just to fit in for woman its to be feminine and for men
its no longer to be masculine but almost to the point of being feminine which makes all of
this so unfortunate.
