You will also do some type of project as explained when you choose the topic you would like to work on. On the back of this paper you will find a Rubric explaining how you will graded on the project and paper. You will be required to keep note cards. For references you must use at least 2 Internet Sites and 2 Books from the classroom, library, National Geographic from home, or any other book you present that I feel would be appropriate for your project. You may use more than 2 Internet Sites/Books if you wish to do so. Ancient Egyptian Presentations of Research Topic and Project: Student has demonstrated their knowledge of the topic researched and can orally explain the topic to his/her peers in order for them to gain a better understanding of the topic. Either way, I must approve the choice before you start. - Mummies: Research the process of embalming and creating a mummy. Explain using details of the process and why the Egyptians believed in the mummification process. For the project make your own mummy’s tomb and case. Write and draw a comic strip to summarize the step-by-step process. - Pyramids: Draw a crosscut diagram illustrating the internal arrangement of a pyramid. You need to label it. Write a paper about the construction process that went into making a pyramid. Describe the labor aspect, materials, time, ect. - Make a collage relating 5 Great Pyramids and the pharaohs who were entombed. Write a research paper discussing the 5 pharaohs. Be specific about things that happened during their reigns and lifetime. Tell how old they were when they took the throne, how long they ruled for, what kind of ruler were they (kind, harsh, mean, greedy, ect.) - Analyze the sacred animals that were entombed with their masters. Make a chart to show how and why each was used in the tomb they were put in. - Create king Tut’s Tomb. Create King Tut’s sarcophagi. Write a research paper on King Tut. Describe his life, when he ruled, what kid of ruler was he? - Write about modern day Giza. Compare/contrast it to Giza during Ancient Egyptian times. Then draw a map of the city of Giza. - Decide why cities grew up along the Nile River. Choose 3 of the Ancient Egyptian cities, research and write a paper on them. Why were they important to Egypt, how were they economically, social scale, where were they located, how did this help or hinder trade? Draw a map showing the position of these cities along the Nile River. Your map should be very thorough and colorful. - Draw a map which identifies the products Egyptians traded in Punt, Nubia, Lebanon, Crete, and Syria. Write a research paper on these. - Compare Egypt’s 3 seasons, Shait (inundation), Pinuit (going out), and Shenia (harvest) to our modern calendar. Make a chart. - Create a map of the Nile with its ancient cities, vegetation, and animals. Write a research a paper researching at least 3 but no more than 5 cities. - Make a working Shadoof (Shaduf) and demonstrate it to us. Write a research paper explaining this process and also what a Shadoof is and why it is so important to the Egyptian people. Make a working Shadoof and present it to the class. - Write a pamphlet illustrating, telling, about a major city or cities in Ancient Egypt. - Choose a famous Ancient Egyptian – Rameses, King Tut, Nefertiti, Cleopatra, ect. - Research and compare and contrast Ancient Egyptian Army to that of Present day Egyptian Army. - Criticize the removal of Egyptian art treasures by the Egyptologists such as Cartel and Lord Carnarvan. - Draw and research an Egyptian warship from the New Kingdom. Use labels to name its parts. Write a paragraph describing it. - Research the sphinxes. Write a research paper on the sphinxes. - Analyze the process to make jewelry. Write a research apaper on the process and kinds that were made and why. They either draw different jewelry on poster board, or create some of your own. - Why were the lotus, paprus flower and animals common motif in Ancient Egyptian art? Research and write a paper explaining this. Then use poster board and draw pictures of the different animals and flowers. - List the semi-precious stones used by the craftsmen. Include color illustrations of each one. Write a paper describing how these were important to the economy, trade and culture of Ancient Egypt. - Draw or make a model of the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut (Dein-El-Bahri). Show the architecture of the period. Research and write about the Queen and why she was important in Ancient Egyptian history.
