Nonfiction Test What to Expect 1. Friday, April 15: 5 paragraph in-class thematic essay based on the nonfiction pieces we’ve read; open note. 2. Monday, April 18: 50 question scan-tron test (matching and multiple choice) What to Study for Essay and Scan-Tron (# of scan-tron questions in parenthesis) 1. Know the definitions of these nonfiction terms (7 questions): persuasive essay expository essay narrative essay biography autobiography memoir nonfiction 2. Review the following nonfiction pieces (20 questions): “On Becoming Human” by David Kreiger “I Have a Dream” by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (6 questions) “Cinderella’s Stepsisters” by Toni Morrison “The Michael Jordan Nobody Knows” by Bob Greene (4 questions) Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom (3 questions) “Not Poor, Just Broke” by Richard Gregory (3 questions) from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and “New Directions” by Maya Angelou Stealing Buddha’s Dinner by Bich Minh Nguyen (4 questions) 3. When reviewing the above pieces, be sure to know the: Type of nonfiction (persuasive, expository, biography, etc.) Events in the piece (i.e. what happened?) Theme Tone of Quotes Mood of Quotes Author’s purpose 4. Review the documentary When We Were Kings directed by Leon Gast (13 questions): Know the 3 parts of a documentary Examples of each part of a documentary in the film Theme Tone of Muhammad Ali quotes Plot Type of nonfiction (persuasive, expository, biography, etc.) 5. On the scan-tron test, you will be asked to read a nonfiction piece we’ve not covered in class and answer MME type questions based on that piece (10 questions). **This portion of the test counts as 1/5 of your final exam grade!**
