Renaissance Research Paper
Researching and drafting: December 8th-12th
Draft due on Friday, December 12th
The goal: Research a Renaissance topic using 3 reliable sources and write an
informational/explanatory essay based on your research. This research and paper will then
be used to create your display, presentation, performance, or other interpretation of your
topic for our class Renaissance Faire, which will take place on December 22 & 23.
Topics to consider:
Art/Artists
Cooking/Baking
Sports (jousting, fencing, bear baiting)
Royalty
Architecture
Fashion
Theatre
Knights/Nobility
Trade/Guilds (blacksmith, swordsmith, merchant, etc.)
Inventors/Inventions
Scientists
Musicians
Authors
Medicine /Health
Crime & Punishment
Alchemy
Town Crier (News/Media)
Elements that must be included in your explanatory paper are:
1. A clear introduction of your topic including a thesis statement.
2. At least 3 body paragraphs thoroughly explaining your topic, which include at least
6 quotes (2 per paragraph) from reliable sources using MLA in-text citation.
3. A clear conclusion that brings together the ideas you covered in the body of your
paper.
4. A works cited page that follows MLA formatting and outlines the 3 reliable sources
you used in your paper.
**These directions as well as the handouts for your research cards, citation packet, and
outline will also be available on the class web pages.
The Informational/Explanatory draft will be worth 50 points
