Part of being a good citizen is being a well-informed citizen. In order to meet this objective, current event analysis will be assigned throughout the course. Below are the guidelines for successfully completing the current events requirement.
Current Event General Assignment Guidelines
Each of the below required sections should be clearly labeled and written in paragraph form following the rules of grammar.
You must attach a copy of the article to your analysis.
All articles must come from a news based source (i.e.- Newspaper, weekly news magazine, online news network.) Unless otherwise stated for a specific week editorials are not acceptable articles.
Articles must be related to either the world, national, state, or local governments.
Weekly assignments will not be accepted late. They must be turned in on the below due dates to receive credit. If you are absent on a current event due date you must turn the assignment in on the next class day in order to receive credit.
Current Event Analysis Required Sections

Section One - Citation
– Article work cited information must be written in MLA or APA format
(2 points)
Section Two - Summary
– Your summary should clearly identify the issue and include information regarding who, what, where, when, why and how. (4 points)
Section Three - Significance/Potential impact – Why is the issue significant? What makes it news worthy? What impact is the issue having or may potentially have on individuals, community, state, nation, and/or world? (4 points)
Section Four - Opinion of the Article
– What is your opinion on the article? Some things to consider
– Did you find it interesting, why? Do you think valid points are raised in the article or do you disagree with the points raised? (5 points)
