Statement of Proof – the “SO WHAT?”
BAD - “In this essay, I will prove that the Friar is to
blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.”
(how are you going to prove this?)
GOOD - Due to Friar Laurence’s ignorance, inaction,
and insensitivity, he inevitably aids in the
deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
BAD - “Love causes suffering in Romeo and Juliet.”
GOOD - Both Romeo and Juliet experience a great
deal of suffering as a result of their love for
one another. This suffering ultimately leads
to their inevitable death.
Essay Writing
For any essay:
1. Tell the reader what you are going to say –
INTRODUCTION
2. Say it! – 3 BODY PARAGRAPHS
3. Tell the reader what you just said –
CONCLUSION
In any essay you must PROVE, ARGUE and PERSUADE!
You must

Keep in mind that your essay is 3 body paragraphs.
Therefore, formulate your ideas around 3 basic
arguments.
For example, Theme of IGNORANCE:
- 3 events
- 3 characters
- 1 character (3 characteristics)
- etc…
