Originally the Armada had to stop on their way to England due to weather. My evidence for this comes from a letter by a Spanish noble who said “The sailing of the Armada should be delayed to allow the weather to grow milder.” However the Armada was not delayed by King Philip and was sent on to England. Level The Spanish Armada failed because there were weaknesses in King Philip’s plan, for example the Spanish Armada leader did not like living at sea. A quote from the sources says he “had no health for sea, for I know … that I soon become seasick”. The Spanish Armada are not going to be able to deal effectively with everything that the English throw at them if their leader can’t stand on deck and give order. Level The Spanish Armada failed because there were weaknesses in Philip’s plan. E.g He received no help from the English Catholics, his leader was sea sick and there were problems with the harbour in the Netherlands not being deep enough for the fleet. The Spanish Cannons were not very accurate and were short range guns. This would not have helped when the English kept their distance in the fight.
