Honoring the Dead
PT 1: The eulogy
You will write a eulogy for your person.
1. Be honest, but be positive
2. Use appropriate tone (sad? funny? lighthearted?)
3. Establish the history
a. Example: 1922. The year my Grandmother was born was a year
of great historic events. (Do a Google search on 1922 events).
4. Avoid just listing qualities. Instead, mention a quality and then
illustrate it with a story. It is the stories that bring the person--and that
quality--to life.
5. Give the eulogy a beginning, middle, and end.
6. Your eulogy should be about 2 pages long (handwritten).
7. Write this in 3rd person
PT 2: Surviving today’s world
You will write about your person surviving in today’s world
1. Answer the following…If ______________ were alive today, what
would they think about the world today? (Explain this using specific
examples)
2. Surviving today’s world should be about 1 page long (handwritten).
PT 3: Memorials
You will be writing about a memorial for your person
1. You will need to create a memorial for your person. Be sure to answer
the following questions:
a. Where would it be?
b. What will it be?
c. What “words” will be inscribed on your memorial? (Think
about “words” your person was famous for saying)
2. Memorials will be about 1 page long (handwritten).
