The Help - The Movie I saw the movie called "The Help" very good and a real eye opener and I highly recommend it. Although this movie is still playing in a theater in my area it may already be out of theater in your area, so I encourage you to get the DVD's. Before I get into my take on the movie The Help, in my last email I shared about the movie The Courageous, I thought it was interesting that after I saw the movie I saw a segment on the Trinity Broadcasting Network with Paul Crouch Jr interviewing Alex Kendrick promoting the movie also. The movie courageous will make you laugh, make you cry go and see it and you will see why. Now back to the movie called The Help. Many of the younger generation today are not aware on how bad segregation was at the time the movie portrayed. Segregation has been a problem from the beginning, Moses had to deal with it because he married a Ethiopian women. Paul had to deal with it and so do we today. I as a younger man never realized how bad it was till I went into the army in 1960. I was stationed at Fort Binning, GA for basic training and for the first time in my life I found out there was still regions and states where people of color had to use separate bathrooms then Caucasian people, and that people of color had to sit at the back of the bus, it was a real shocker to me. I was raised in New Jersey, my family had a business called John D'Alesio and sons landscaping and contracting, and growing up I worked along side people of many different races, I also went to school with kids with all different ethnic backgrounds. So when I got to GA in 1960 it was a real eye opener and heartbreaker for me. I was then sent to Fort Sill, OK for advanced training. The army at that time was training me to be a forward observer in the artillery. Prior to sending me to my tour of duty in Germany they sent me to more advance training at fort hood, TX and that is where I got another eye opener. I had a 3 day pass and took a bus to Dallas, I got off the bus and headed up the steps into the bus terminal. I was greeted by a large group of men of color, they wanted to beat me up and I could not understand why. They pointed to a sign over the door that said Negroes only, then they pointed to the sign over another door that said white people only. I was completely shocked, never experienced anything like it. It almost started a riot. I explained to them that I am from NJ, worked with, went to school with, and was raised with people of color and my parents did not raise me that way. Well it was really exciting when they let me go through there door because alot of the white people did not like it. So when I saw the movie The Help it brought back alot of memories. In my 6 years in the military some of my closest friends were people of color and so it is today. Go see the movie, bring your family as it will be a eye opener for everyone you bring and in the meantime keep encouraging everyone to be blessed by the programs on pastorjohndalesio.org and heartlandglobal.org.
