Jasmine Carreon Leadership 2950 Personal Leadership Philosophy Paper Throughout the semester much of the focus was on Strengthsquest and how to correlate our lives around our strengths to produce the most success in our lives. But one of the more important lessons that I learned through my Strengthsquest experience is to not allow my strategic thinking Themes to conquer over my executing Theme, and set me in paranoia of taking action. I could have the most brilliant mind of the century, but without taking action to accomplish what I’ve planned, I will have accomplished nothing. Within the class we were asked to define ten values of a list of three hundred and seventy four. Many took a lot of time to decide, and I was able to figure out mine within ten minutes. The process of thinking and deciding what my values are is information I’ve already thought through, but the act of writing them down and cementing them into value statements was exactly what I needed to help me figure out what I wanted to do. The statement itself “what I wanted to do” is something that I’ve also come to realization of within this semester. I’ve always been one who supported humanitarian causes, and realized that those were the acts that made me happy; not necessarily having a career focused around monetary value. My value statements are centered on what I want to do with my life, and will help motivate me to look towards my goals and what makes me happy. I’ve learned many things about myself within this semester. I am a believer of the Situational Theory. As we begin to develop as people and form our ideals, it takes personal life experience. No matter what those experiences are, all Jasmine Carreon Leadership 2950 persons will walk away from those situations having learned a lesson. Within these lessons we can see how much adaptability and stress one can undertake, when thrown into leadership positions of most haste. There are certain types of people out there who are attracted to leadership and have innate qualities that allow them to make successful leaders. Without drive and passion the ability to become a successful leader is nigh impossible. Overall, of the leadership theories and traits, I have learned that each individual has the potential to be a leader, whether they are aware of it or not. It’s like a primal instinct that each person has, and sometimes it’s more vibrant in select individuals. I’m an individual who is a leader, and the journey I’m on will always be one of a learning experience. My mission statement is as follows, “To treasure above all else: passion, love, unity and creativity; by pursuing to further my education and my dreams of helping others.” I will live by this mission statement from now on until I’ve completed my education at a bachelor’s level. I will achieve and reach my goals by remembering my value statements. 1. Only by knowing and loving yourself, are you able to help others. 2. Many hearts that beat as one. 3. Question all things. 4. Differences were made when people united. 5. Find balance within no limitations. I’ve come to the sudden realization that without my natural drive for leadership and my personal goals, that I would not be the person I am today. I Jasmine Carreon Leadership 2950 will take the information that was taught in this class and apply it to life, whether it be apart of leadership or not. All of these lessons have helped me become a well-rounded individual, as well as more aware of the impact I have the capacity to make.
