Imperial College London Job Description Job Title Project Manager, Blue Green Dream (BGC) Department Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Engineering Job Family/Level Professional Services, Level 3B Salary Range £33,590 – £41,540 per annum Contract Full time, fixed term until 31 December 2015 Location South Kensington Campus Responsible To Professor Čedo Maksimović Key Working Relationships BGD Project partners and Climate-KIC members Purpose of the Post The adverse effects of intensifying climate extremes (floods, droughts and extreme heat) combined with increasing urbanisation call for a new paradigm for efficient planning and management of the urban environment: one that maximises ecosystem services, minimises environmental footprint and increase the adaptive capacity of cities to changing climate, demographic and socio-economic conditions. The new paradigm calls for rethinking existing ways of planning, designing, constructing, operating and maintaining urban water systems (blue assets) and urban vegetated areas (green assets), not as separate systems as is the case today, but in combination. The Blue Green Dream (BGD) project will enhance the synergy of urban blue and green systems and provide effective, multifunctional Blue Green Solutions (BGS) to support urban adaptation to future climatic changes. Inter alia the project’s multiple benefits include: increased amenity and urban health, enhanced resilience to drought and flood risk, reduced air pollution, noise and energy requirements, mitigation of extreme heat and urban heat island effects and enhancement of biodiversity and quality of life. Innovative paradigms, models, tools and methodologies will be created by sharing expertise between KIC academic research and consultancy partners from 4 countries. Jointly developed project deliverables will be tested and demonstrated in selected sites which will be established in Berlin, London, Paris and Rotterdam and, if feasible, several other places to demonstrate the benefits of blue - green infrastructure for both retrofit and new developments. Associated costs, equipment, policies and practical constraints and replication mechanisms at the national and international level will be identified. The Project Manager will act for the whole consortium and as such will be responsible for the following key tasks: Overall coordination and supervision of partners and collaborators Organisation of the management team Administrative and financial reporting Communications, news and publicity Interaction with full scale implementation of results and outcomes through BGD network of partners, spin-out companies and BGD regional centres Key Responsibilities To cooperate with the project coordinator (Professor Čedo Maksimović), partners and researchers in the BGD R&D team in managing the BGD project. In particular to undertake the management of the project and consortium along the following lines: Provide regular (day to day) project coordination; supervise the progress of the project including the budget, deliverables and milestones Organise the BGD Project Management Group, consisting of the WP leaders / national coordinators, and organise meetings at least 2 times per year for monitoring and directing regular progress; Liaise with Climate-KIC and UK CLC administration and undertake on behalf of ICL and its subcontractors all administrative and financial matters. Assist members of the consortium in administrative and financial matters and reporting. Coordinate, in collaboration with the Project Coordinator (Prof. Maksimovic) the BGD Special Task Force (STF) to support and supervise development of full scale implementation of the BDG project results. As a part of the WP0, to design the BGD communication plan and undertake continuous activities of communication and dissemination of the intermediate and final project deliverables. This will include but not be limited to activities such as management of the website and development of a new LinkedIn newsgroup, etc. Collaborate with the teams dealing with development of the e-learning material in in its full scale implementation in training. Coordinate the activities in development of the Scoping study for BGD certification. Update the project website with news, deliverables and other publicity material. A PhD in a relevant discipline is desirable. Experience and Knowledge Experience in project management of large interdisciplinary teams and consortia and in full scale implementation of its results Experience in the communication and dissemination of research products and outputs. Experience in engineering practice and/or research and development would be an asset. Skills Good analytical skills. Excellent English language skills (knowledge of French, Dutch and German would also be appreciated). Language skills extend to excellent written communication and the ability to write clear technical and administrative reports. Excellent presentation skills and ability to work with professional and public audiences. Excellent team-working skills. Good working knowledge of project management software methods and applications. Good working knowledge of web communication tools (websites, social media etc.). Ability to relate to and work with both research partners, industrial partners, public sector and administration.
