Imperial College London Job Description Job Title: Research Associate Department: Department of Computing Job Family/Level: Academic and Research, Level B Salary Range: £32,750 - £40,440 per annum Contract: Full time, fixed term for 3 years Location: South Kensington Campus Responsible to: Dr Julie McCann Key working relationships: Supervisor, other academic staff and students within the Department, academic staff and students within the Department of Civil Engineering, external collaborators. Summary of Research Project: The Research Associate will work in the Department of Computing, Adaptive Embedded Sensing Engineering (AESE) group, led by Julie McCann, in partnership with Dr Ivan Stoianov in Civil Engineering. Cities need to be more responsive, efficient and sustainable with regard to water resources. NEC, Japan and the Departments of Computing and Civil Engineering welcome applications to their collaborative research programme in the Smart Water Systems Lab. The research programme will focus on enhancing existing and developing breakthrough technologies to optimally manage the UK’s aging water supply infrastructure. The Research Associate will be responsible for collaboratively developing the research programme, analysing and evaluating new algorithms/protocols, publishing in top tier conferences and journals, contributing to the supervision of the PhD student, and collaborating with the Research Associates and PhD Students from the Department of Civil Engineering who are co-researchers in this project Key Responsibilities: Plan and carry out research in accordance with the project aims and timeframes, in collaboration with internal and external project partners. Collaboratively developing the research programme. Analysing and evaluating new algorithms/protocols. Contributing to the supervision of the PhD student, and collaborating with the Research Associates and PhD Students from Department of Civil Engineering. Demonstrating the more practical outcomes of the work. Maintaining accurate and complete records of all research, development and findings. Publishing in top tier conferences and journals, and presenting findings at research meetings and conferences. Collaborating with and providing assistance and guidance to students at all levels. All research staff may be expected to undertake certain teaching duties without additional payment, subject to any limitations prescribed by the terms of the grant or contract under with they are employed. Proven knowledge and track record in at least two of the following areas: o Data Mining, Machine Learning, preferably for embedded and sensor systems o Distributed Data fusion o Graph theory o Distributed Optimisation and/or Control Preference will be given to applicants with a proven research record and publications in relevant areas. It is advantageous to have an understanding of the water industries or similar asset management experience.
