APUSH Extra Credit Assignment: Watch a video or movie from the list below. Create a poster reviewing the movie you watched. The movie review is worth up to 20% points that can be applied to your lowest test score. All of the videos listed should be available through digital video services like Netflix, Amazon, or iTunes. Many are show periodically on television and some are available at the public library. Please select a movie that you have not seen before. Also, you must choose a movie that your parents are comfortable with you viewing. Some of these movies are very graphic and can be upsetting. I have put those movies in bold that most likely fall into this description. Make sure you check the details and ratings of the movie before you watch. If you choose a movie that is rated “R,” you MUST have a parent’s signature on your poster. Your movie review poster must include the following information: 1. Title of the Movie 2. Major characters in the movie (not the actors) 3. Time period in which the movie takes place (if you do not know the dates, explain as specifically as possible what time frame it occurred in) 4. A brief summary of the plot (no more than 5 sentences) 5. A discussion of the historical context of the film (explain the causes and effects of the topics discussed in the film; at least 8 sentences) 6. Summary of the film’s historical significance (What does it have to do with American History? Why is the topic significant? At least 5 sentences) 7. Rating (G, PG, PG-13, R) 8. Length of the movie (exact number of minutes – can be found on the movie or box) 9. A brief summary of your opinion of the film (At least 5 sentences with analysis) 10. At least 4 visual aids, pictures, or graphics associated with the film.
